question about "cracker dry"
    #834210 - 08/21/02 06:03 PM (22 years, 9 months ago)

are dried shrooms supposed to be kinda flexible and chewy?
often i find that my shrooms are just as dry as they can be (24+ hours under a lamp with black shirt), but theyre still kinda flexible and I can 'squeeze' them .. are they still not dried properly?

Can you bend a cracker?

they dont bend THAT easily, but correct me if i'm wrong...fully dried means they snap when you bend them?

are they supposed to be as dry as the stems of well dried bud? (snaps with a little pressure)

You have to dry them untill they start listening to Waylon Jennings, doin' meth, and buy a single wide trailer that cost less than their truck.

Then they are done.

If they make a little flower garden out of a tractor tire, they may be a little too dry. Douse them off with some PBR.

Dude, C'mon! They are cracker dry when they snap apart. You will know, its obvious. If they are bending then they are obviously not dry, right? They will not stay good if they are not dryed properly.

well, my confusion is a result of buying many bags of "dried" fungus, and the caps are dry but give just a little.. i guess this is to increase the weight of the bag

I get mushroom almost cracker dry, but just letting them chill by the fan on high for like 12 hours. It works REALLY!! well. I usually put something behind them so they don't blow away.

later

This only works in very dry climates. People in the deep south or other humid climates for instance will require dessicant to get their mushrooms to that state.

I've found that a car carrier lined with paper towels works well - lots of ventilation, no dried product blowing away and they're protected from critters (if you've got pets, you know what I mean)

take the front grill off an upright fan and you have a nice tray, then fan for a day or two and your good to go. i put mine in a large container with damp rid at the bottom with a few racks made of 1/4 wire fence to dry them for long term storage.

and you can only bend a soggy cracker beotch...
