Mushroom drying question?

heres the question. Mushrooms cracker dry are about 1/10, or 10% the weight of fresh mushrooms. Okay!

What about mushrooms that have been drying for about 3 hours under a fan. The caps are noticably dryer, yet still squishy and soft. How much weight change do you think occurs? Is it really possible to tell.

Did you weigh them when you first harvested? If not, then it probably be pretty hard to tell.

yea, its more or less impossible to tell how much a mushroom has dried.

if i have just harvested some shrooms and i am planning on tripping soon. I always split some of the shrooms into 30gram piles when they are drying, that way i always know how much is there halfway thru drying.

doh!

well the reason I wanted to know was because i weighed them out for two friends and gave them the mushrooms;.


It was about 20 small mushrooms, and it only weighed to 34 grams. I bet it was like 40-45 grams first harvested

one time I only got 7% of the wet weight. also I really don't think that 3 hours under a fan will get them dry enough.

you misunderstood my post. I had no intent in attaining a certain level of dryness, rather I wanted to know an accurate weigh to dose mushrooms 1/3 dry.

Dont worry about it now though :smile:
