Dehydrator for drying....?
    #1146690 - 12/16/02 07:34 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

Anybody ever try using a dehydrator to dry the mushrooms after they are picked? Like the same thing used to make dry fruit. (i.e. Banana chips...)  Does it work?  Is it quicker than any other methods?  :smirk:

Peace!

Yes, it has been done many times. A simple utilization of the search(link at the top of the page) link would have revealed this.

Yes, if you can fruits and meats why would it not apply to mushrooms?

Read the manual to find out actual drying times. Other methods would be fan drying for 24-48 hours, then finishing up with another 24 hours in a dessicating chamber.

Yes, I use a dehydrator and it makes the mushrooms cracker-dry in about 24-36 hours. Keep the heat on it's lowest setting, or if your dehydrator doesn't have temperature control, you should remove the heating element to prevent the mushrooms from losing potency from too much heat.

Edit: A low setting of 95 F seems to work just fine.
