Cobweb!?!?

I was just browsing random posts and found some talk about cobweb like growth. When I took the lid off my jars the was white fluffy stuff on the top dry verm layer. Is this normal?? I scraped off that layer and everything else seems fine. Any ideas???

First off you shouldnt be taking the lid off your jars unless you want contaminates to ruin your hard work!

Until you have some experience you may confuse the beginning stage of mycelium growth with cobwebs. Cobwebs literally look like stringy gray hairs.

There are tons of pictures on here of cobweb so the best thing to do is keep searching.

Whispy, fine mycelium often grows into the dry verm barrier, so you're probably OK.  Wash it all off under the faucet, and then dunk and roll.  While birthing, smell each jar.  Keep any with a fresh mushroom smell, and toss any that have a 'dirt' smell.
