Whoa.  Looks odd but OK to me.  Any possibility of taking a photo directly, ie not through the plastic?

Looks like 100% contamination to me. I would throw it out.

It looks like (maybe) Hericium sp. Maybe lion's mane or Hericium coralloides.

Maybe it is normal mycelium. I've never seen that happen before personally.

The top of that is covered in cobweb. See that stringy grey stuff that kinda looks spiderweb-ish covering the top of the mycelium? That's cobweb.

These pictures show it really well. That strange almost random greyish layer on top shouldn't be there. It's very light, loose, almost looks like tiny spiders made a web over your myc. It's cobweb, no doubt about that.

Here's a picture, look familiar?

Wow....a lot of misinformation in this thread...

That sub is not contaminated.  It looks quite healthy and strong.

Wait for 100% colonization and then expose it to fruiting conditions.

Good luck,

JD

That looks nothing like cobweb???

PEMMs:
That's some awesome rhizomorphic growth from mycelium. It's a good thing!

I see that sort of growth once my Hpoo bags settle in a bit. Keep doin what your doin!

Patching those areas wouldn't hurt as Ventestega said. That'll help get everyone in sync a bit too.

Here's some others that show your type of growth.
Extreme Example

Agar Example

BTW, What strain is that???

The cakes I took out a few weeks ago looked just like this.  The myc came up throught the dry verm layer on to it was so stringy.  Ended up sticking to the lid.  Everything has been fine so far for me.

One of the cakes that I put in the fruiting chamber actually spread some myc outinto the perlite.  I made a thread about it a while back. Heres a pic.

No need to patch or case whatsoever. Let it consolidate then introduce fruiting conditions.

I've been getting that type of aerial mycelium in MS grows of var. Puerto Rico. The growth just sticks around, only noticed a few of them knotting. The strongest pins came from beneath the casing. Clones from the grows showing the aerial growth are extremely aggressive. Looks good to me!

Seriously man you better keep those pics coming, cause I'm booking this thread.  The one and only time I got aerial myc. like that was a straight dense "canopy" flush, which i ended up pulling out a bit under .5 bows on the first flush....DRIED!

:O!  I'm excited. I don't know what I did differently... done this before with same strain exact same way. Except this time my closet setup is nice, I used 1qt jar more spawn, new LC.

Here's the mixture:
1 brick of coir
2 quarts fine verm (couldn't find coarse)
2 cups gypsum
2 cups Starbucks coffee grounds (miracle expresso? :P)
6 quarts WBS spawn

1. Quarts of WBS were pressure cooked @ 15psi for 90 min
2. Inoculated with LC about 3 days later (was busy)
3. WBS jars took about 2 weeks to fully colonize; shook after 1 week
4. Mixed of coir, verm, gypsum, and coffee together well in 5gal bucket with ~5qt of boiling water. Sat in bucket until temp was 60-65 degrees.
5. Mixed spawn and substrate contents together well in monotub, plugged all 6 holes with a good amount of poly; couple of days later... EUREKA!

Anyone sense overlay at all in those pics? Some of the myc is looking a bit dense. I used the last bit of substrate mixture to case evenly (although I knew it wasn't needed). Hopefully that didnt fux anything up!#@@

This was straight from spore syringe > LC > WBS. I got some luck!
It grew pretty nice and fast in the jars & didnt see any type of contam.

Here's an updated pic, couple of hours later: -- another view:
I hope that patch colonizes.... lol.

More jars incoming!!!!

HOLY SHIT!!!! Dude that is some crazy rhizo growth! I can't wait to see how it's going to flush.

to me it looks like it may need more fresh air exchange. when mine dont get enough FAE they tend to do that in spots (never that much tho!) and to me it seems like the myc is reaching out to try n get more air. again just from speculation and what ive noticed in my grows, id say try n provide more oxygen

Are you gonna case it? Or is that the casing layer being overtaken by mycelium? It looks thirsty

When I mixed the substrate and spawn together, I used the last bit of substrate to case a thin layer over the top of spawn mix. Evenly distributed as best as possible.

What are your fruiting conditions?

for current colonization:
78-80 degrees in a dark closet
Six 2" holes stuffed tight with polyfil
Saran wrap over bin lid
Small HEPA fan on low at all times
I did have another fan on low but turned off recently...
Seemed to help some while it was on..

It looks to me like they are ready to be introduced to an FC. What do you have built for them? I would suggest PmP like mine. I bet they would flourish in there.

Check out mine here

Thanks guys!

I'm going to post pic when I get home later.
It might be ready for fruiting by then. We will see.

I'm using a self-sufficient mono tub which I've had good yields with before. Gonna try to get the temps down to 68 degrees for a few hours before fully fruiting. Heard this makes them fruit better.

Once fully colonized you don't need polyfill at all and it should be removed.
