red staing mushroom
    #869606 -

Well, i went shrooming this morning and i found a few cubes and stuff. I also found a mushroom that i am curious about.

It was white with black specks on the cap and on the base of the stem.
The cap was bell shaped and it was growing on cow dung.
It stained red so fast that i thought i was bleeding on the shroom but i checked my hands and i had no cuts or or scrapes. I didnt take a spore print because i didnt bring it along, i was quikly skimming the field( i was extremly paranoid because this was only the second time i had been to this field and i was alone with pot in the brain. Any wild guesses to what it could be. I know its not a good description but i didn't examine this mushroom that long so thats the best i can do.

Thanks for any helpful replies.

Your description is intriguing enough to make me want to ask a couple questions.

What was the stem like (thick, thin, long short)?
Was there a ring on the stem?
What color were the gills?
Was it growing directly from the dung or possibly from the ground at the edge of the dung?

If you see an odd mushroom you might want identified, collect it. If it turns out you don't want or need it later you can always throw it out.

There are lots of mushrooms that bruise red, but I can't think of any off the top of my head that normally grow from dung.

There are a few red staining species......possibly a type of Red Staining Agaricus.Sylvaticus, Langeri?..some are edible....would have to be  absolutely  sure before eating..

Dude I just found clumps of these white mushrooms growing in red wood mulch. They have a black spot on the top and white gills. Trying to separate the cap from the stem it bled orange red. Spore print hasnt really come out yet. What are these?

How big are they? What shape is the cap? Did you get a spore print? Is there a ring on the stem? How tall are they? How thick is the stem? Is there any odor to them?

We need to know more to identify them. Answering the questions above will get us pretty close to what you've found.
