shrooms that stain red????

has anyone heard anything about these? I live in central NC and I came across a huge pile of dung/woodchips/sawdust/grass sitting on the edge of a field, anticipating shrooms I came back a couple days after a rain and found 5 or 6 species growing together on the hill, I found in the crevice next to a tree a HUGE cluster of small white shrooms, that when I picked them up to my facsination stained a rusty red within seconds, this is weird, never heard about this, any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Not much info there to go on, without a photo or more detailed description. A number of unrelated mushrooms stain red, including "small white" species of Agaricus and Lepiota. Probably many others as well.

If i bruise an human individual it will also stain red... by the way

Sounds like its probably a lepiota, just because of the habitat and the time of year. I also pick an area that is filled with piles of wood chips and grass clippings, and I always find those red/orange staining lepiotas, and I just started finding them a few weeks ago, so they are in season. Just my guess though, could be wrong.

I think Lizard King probably nailed it.I've been seeing a lot of the lepiota's in the area.Course I'm just guessing also.
