This is probably way too overcomplicated for the purpose, but I wonder if there would be a way to make ratings from banned users removable by the recipient of the rating. That way, each user can manage their own ratings and decide which ratings from banned users deserve to be removed.

I'd bet that this would probably take an inordinate amount of coding by the admins though. Still, the only guy to give me a negative rating just got banned for 8 monthes for being a general douche, so I'd love to scrub that one off my record.

To be honest I don't think there would be much of a practical difference between these two options.

I was just thinking that this would get rid of the complaint that users were losing good ratings that they liked. They can't complain if they pick which ratings are removed (like just the bad ones from banned flamers). Still, I don't think that the coding you would probably need to do to make this feature would be justified by the benefits (who really cares about 1 or 2 general ratings from banned users).

I personally think ratings from banned users/puppets should go away automatically when they're banned.  I'm sure folks are making puppets to rate their friends and themselves better, as well as to abuse the system to load others they don't like with zeros.  If they're banned or a puppet, the ratings they've left are like stolen merchandise. . .

i say just leave the rating system as it is... you implemented this before right ythan?

and people complained...

can you imagine the uproar when someone discovers that they lost a 5 shroom rating from a banned user!
