What type of tree did the woodchips come from? You need the right type for fruiting. Next time, don't use cardboard-it's a waste of time cuz it contains nutrients for mycelial expansion. I don't advise using potting soil-there are plenty of nutrients in the woodchips provided they're fresh. Will they fruit? Completely temperature/environment & strain dependent. If it colonizes all of the substrate in time and the humidity is right, along with the temperature, it'll fruit.

so in order to get a fruiting bed starting this late you want to minimize the amount of nutrients available? Reason being that if there is still food in the fall they will continue with vegative state? Interesting.. I would think that no matter what (more food or not) they would still fruit in the fall..

Well,a short update: The mycelium is poking through the layer of soil at some places. I poked around a bit and the mycelium is rapidly getting hold of the wood chips now! Half of it is colonized now. This growth is really fast. It's probably caused by the shitty summer we have here in holland. Temperatures are around 18-20oC and it rains frequently. If growth continues at this speed the woodchips will be colonized in another 2 weeks i estimate. I am very optimistic. As soon as i get the chance i will post pics.------------------ "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." - Albert Einstein
