outdoor cyan bed
    #1000945 -

How would I increase the size of an already existing(natural) patch of p. cyans. I dont have that much mycelium to work with. Also can you buy bags of alder/maple mulch if so where?

By mixing new material with the already existing one.

Carefully expose as much mycelia as possible and add moistened alder chips(bags are available for home smokers)and recase in the original material removed to expose the mycelia. Some peat may be added to complete the "casing"
PS a small amnt of beer added to the moistening water for the chips aids colonization.
BON CHANCE! WR

Hmmm....
This would rather invite contamination, imho....

hmmm that home smoker chips idea sounds good but doesnt that stuff have chemicals in it for smoking meat. I was thinking of using the wood chips small alder twigs and maple tree seeds and maybe some ripped up cardboard. Theres only a small amount of mycelium so I dont want to fuck this up and lose my patch. Cyans are next to impossible to find in the Fraser Valley because cedar mulch is used exclusively.

The wood chips for the smoker are clean you may be thinking of the brine used on the meat, it contains nitrites. As for beer and contaminations I use only about three tblspns/gallon of boiling water to moisten the wood chips and I keep the chips sealed in a oven bag until I use them.So far I have not contaminated any of the beds I keep using this method to suppliment them. But you must not use too much beer and it must be pasturized before adding to wood or cardboard.Peace  :wink:WR

add an agressive contam culture to an outdoor bed and watch the patch go to waste. just 'cause the patch is already established doesn't mean its safe. A less than agressive contam will either affect yield(possibly potency) if mild, or do nothing noticable. Depends on the contam as to whether or not it will have an effect on the mycellium(regardless if its just starting, its established, or fruiting).
If an entire outdoor area, in which fruits were found, was somehow sterilized, the amount of fruits would be extreme. because millions of spores are located there. If surrounding area is the same then contams are the greatest killer. somewhere close by is a network that was a comtam away from flushing.
