The bed was 1ft. deap and made in April of freshley shredded Maple wood (Acer rubrum) that was pasturized. The spawn was hardwood sawdust/Wheat Grain (4 to 1). The bed was covered with a 1/2 inches of Soil, then covered with Wheat Straw 1 ft. thich. NO CARE WAS GIVEN TO THE BED TILL OCTOBER. The Wheat Straw was removed befor fruiting occured.

Both beds look verry nice , Im verry interested in this subject of outdoor fruiting , atfer examinating the pics , it seems like the shrooms are wanting to fruit closer to the rocks that seem to be providing shelter for them , heres a theory im thinkgn about . if the shelter has any realtion to them fruiting then what about takeing say a densly needled pine branch (or some other natural substitute , post any ideas) and makeing some kind of natural tarp/shelter to prevent absolute direct rian and sunlight , when thinking about it , i would think the needles would provide enough shelter to slow the travel and falling speed of the drops to prevent less violent/damaging rains , and aslo still be able for soft sunlight to make it through the barrier . let me know if this sounds like it might work and with positve effects. agian nice beds , is this there first year ? do beds fruits/flushes grow lager in numbers every year ? thx . peace XX

It isn't the rocks that's causing them to fruit there. Most mushroom beds tend to fruit at the edges than they do in the center of the bed. I can not explain why. It may be with the interaction of the grass at the edge of the bed. I don't know. I can tell you there's a five degree temperature dfference between the center of the bed and the outer edge. The center being the hottest. On the casting, pine needles will help but I have found it to be more of a mess. Some can't penetrate the pine needles. The ones that do, the needles become embedded at the base of the stem. But, it still helps. Pine bark chips work best for me. I hope this helps. Peace

Oh, ok, that?s what I assumed. The thing is that i thought until a few months back this was P. bohemica. Well, I showed the pictures and sent some dried specimens to a czech mycologist, and he said that it?s for sure not P. bohemica , but he also wasn?t able to tell which species it is. Macroscopicaly it?s similar to P. arcana, but the spores are much larger(up to 16 micrometer), so microscopicaly it?s similar to a not yet officialy described species, P. moravica(nom prov). He will do some DNS screening with these species to find out which species this is. So what you have here, is something very special ;) Good work (as allways)!

No, nothing really new, the current status is still that it?s probably P. arcana.
