food dehydrator
    #864832 -

If available the food dehydrator is an ideal way to dry mushrooms while maintaining their potency? I know that heat is a big killer of psilocybin so my question is are their food dehydrators that don't have heaters in them. I'm not sure how to turn the heater off with tape or something? Basically whats the best food dehydrator for mushroom long term storage, while obviously keeping them potent.

That topic has been beat to death in this forum. Search for dehydrator to get more info than you may ever need.

i have the answer you seek without implying that you are stupid for asking like most people do in this forum. theres one for every post. check and see. my view is answer the question or shut the hell up.
but anyway wal-mart sells the best tool for the job.
it is called NESCO AMERICAN HARVEST FOOD DEHYDRATOR.
it has a thermostat so you can set it at say 95 degrees and not have a problem.
it has four large trays and you can make fruit roll ups out of applesauce.
i cut caps off and split the stems in half and cracker dry in about 6 hours.
good luck and happy hunting.

sorry, i didn't mean to imply it's a stupid question. I had the same question just a couple days ago. I meant that there is SO much to discuss that has already been discussed (heat or no heat?, pre-dry or straight to dehydrator?, dehydrator only or follow by dessicant?, etc. etc. etc.)

Anywho, from what I've read it seems like CRAZYFUKR's answer is perfect and is the path I would choose.

ah, the snackmaster! Much cheaper than some of the other American Harvest Dehydrators. Thanks for that info!

How much can you fit in there?

when dried about 1.5 oz if placed well as they dry they shrink as you know the beauty being, that makes more space. just pull the dry ones as you go or get two.
though i have yet to fire up the second.
i got them for $39.99 each at wal-mart which aint bad once you factor in return.
good luck

Try going to your local Thrift shops.
I pick up American Harvest Snackmaster food dehydrator's all the time.
You can find a $69.00 one for $3.99 to $6.99 all the time.
Alot of them have never been used!

85 to 95 degrees isn't doing to lose any noticable potency.
