You don't need to worry about things like this. Just keep being that wonderful soul that you are and that's all you'll need to do.

Seven billion of us and you've figured out what every single one of us wants. :cuckoo:

:muahaha:

I'm talking only about base instincts and pre-programming. I was generalizing the words "female" and "male" to pretty much any species, not just humans.

You're going to need to start producing a fair bit of substantiation for this, most certainly for the "pretty much any species". In fact, with many species, the male plays no role in providing safety and security for the female and the offspring. It varies so much between species that I don't think the statement "pretty much any species" has any basis in reality at all.

Beyond that, what support do you have for the idea you've presented being a fair representation of the "base instincts" and "pre-programming" of human beings?

Alright, yes, I stand corrected. Thanks for calling me out on this. What I said is not true for every species. In fact, I know that in some mating rituals the male is sometimes even killed (specifically in insect species). I guess I was thinking more about just mammals.

But the point I was going for, is that the idea of procreation is to spread healthy genes. Most species do have a mating "ritual" of some sort, and it involves at least one of the sexes investigating the others strengths and weaknesses. Birds use mating calls, or mating dances, to attract a potential mate. If a bird was born incapable of singing or, had some sort of crippling injury so it couldn't dance, well it's chances of procreating would be pretty small. The point of these rituals is to prove that both sexes are fully capable of mating and raising their young.

Now I realize its significantly more complicated amongst humans. But the basic instincts are still the same. No one is attracted to someone that they regard as puny, pathetic, small, unintelligent, incapable...etc. People are attracted to qualities that demonstrate strength, success, power, stability, etc.

Obviously humans want other things out of relationships because we have culture and imagination....I'm not saying this is the answer to everything. I'm just making a point that we can't avoid the very basic driving factors behind mating in general.

Hope that explained myself a bit better.

That's not necessarily true for mammals, either.   (BTW, you do know that birds are not mammals?  You brought them up as an example immediately after you stated that your comments were only about mammals.)

You know this to be true for all 7 billion humans on this planet?  Some people ARE attracted to those whom they perceive as inferior, because it makes THEM feel superior.  Some people are NOT attracted to those whom they perceive as strong/successful/powerful, because these qualities are seen as intimidating.

If your statements were based in fact, only "superior" people would be able to find mates.  Quite evidently, this is NOT the case.

Oi vey...I feel like i've trapped myself in a box.

Yes, there are 7 billion of us. Theres probably not a single thing I can say that can capture everyone's feelings and actions.

I'm just trying to make a case and defend it, which apparently I'm failing at.

No we can't, because Occam's Razor never recommended ignoring variables in order to make the simplest theory more plausible. He said that the theory that most gracefully explains a phenomena in light of all known variables is most likely to be correct.

Don't be so hard on yourself, there is an element of truth in the evolutionary psychological explanation of human relations you described, but there are other variables as well that simple can't be ignored.
