Alcohol and Bleach?

I have been doing a lot of reading here. Yes I am new to all this. I inoculated  qt jars last month and lost them to a green fuzz. I pcd and tossed them in the garbage. so I ordered another syringe and knocked up 6 more qt jars
a week ago. I noticed some growth a few days ago and shook them up. yesterday I had a look and noticed 1 jar with the green fuzz. Other 5 seem alright.

For info: Rye berries pcd about 100 min. Next morning sprayed a shit load of Lysol around my work station. As I took the jars out of the pc I wiped dry, then wiped each jar with alcohol and placed into glove box. I flame sterilized needle after each jar. To inoculate I lifted each jar lid by tilting it about a 1\4" to one side.

After typing all that, Question is, I keep reading that alcohol and Clorox do not kill mold. What does? I know sterilization but why use all the alcohol? How the heck do I keep contaminating my jars?

Alcohol and bleach will generally kill most mold spores, but bleach alone does a poor job of killing live mold mycelium.  Lifting the lid to inoculate without a laminar flow hood increases the risk somewhat.  Make sure you're wearing alcohol washed latex gloves when you work.

Spray down the inside of your glovebox with water from your mister.  This will have the effect of trapping and holding contaminant spores that come into contact with it.

Thanks RR. Actually I have been doing some searches and found where you had been posting about this very subject. I think the recipe for my future inc's will be 1c bleach 1 gal water and 1 cup vinegar. Also you had mentioned to keep the floor of the glove box damp to trap airborne particles. I wish I had the funds and space for a FH. For now I'll just have to make do with what I have.:grin:
