PLEASE HELP, my BROTHER is in the MENTAL HOSPITAL

well i woke up today and it seems my dad took my brother to the hospital today cuz he was freaking out i took him once earlier it calmed him down but i guess it didnt work. NOw hes over in the mental hospital. what can i do to help him hes my only brother. hes never taken anything psycedelic. i know hes done lots of coke but stopped a couple years ago and hasnt touched it since, hes been to Irag and he just got back is this PTS?

It seems to me that he works him self up to the point that he believes he's been drugged or something i cant help him and its killing me. please help me to help him.

Very well could be PTS. If thats the case its probably treatable. I wish I could be of more help, but its hard to say. It seems that he was stable before he left so I think its safe to say its PTS. I hope he turns out ok let us know.

you can "HELP" him by being there for him. you are not god; you are not able to completely free him of his mind state. talk to him when he needs it, visit him, and make sure you show your love. it's up to him work it out on his own. be a brother, not superman!

The best thing you can do is visit him often and try to connect with him, imo.  Its probably in the court's hands by now...??

im going to go over and visit him 2mrw when i get off work hopefully ill be able to talk with him. ill let everyone know.
I dont understand though? ive had bad mushroom trips where i think im going to die and all that and i never ended up in the hospital though i would of loved to have gone for the longest time after it happened.
I suppose its differnt for ever one...

Hm, PTS is a different ballgame. While a bad trip can certainly leave you scarred for life depending on the circumstances it will never be like watching people get shot and die or even shooting another person or running from bullets being fired at you. PTS (I THINK) is the brains way of blocking out reality, and it does this to not cause any permanent problems. He will probably end up being ok. Let us know, and I wish him/you the best.

Great advice.

I've been hearing a lot lately that MDMA is a very promising treatment for PTSD, IME yes it can help but now he's in pharma-psych's hands, not much we can do.

He needs grounding.  Basic concepts that connect him to the material world experientially.  Question the medications used in his treatment.  He needs to go back through what he knows for sure and what he thinks is just his imagination...  Perhaps.

It's very common for something like this to happen with prolonged exposure to stimulants. I know it looks scary from the outside, because your brother is reacting to an extreme form of paranoia and probably having anxiety attacks, and it looks scary when somebody is exhibiting mannerisms that are similar to schizophrenia... the important thing, is to remain calm. The more you freak out about his behavior, the more it exacerbates his mental instability.

The good thing about drug-induced mania is that once a person stops touching that drug, it usually goes away, in over 90% of the cases. Even without the aid of psychiatric depressants, it eventually will (for now though, those drugs might be able to help him). As long as he vows to no longer use cocaine, and he sticks to it,  he will come through just fine. If he relapses though, he must know that depending on how long his "break" was, it will only take a couple of times before he returns to this state again--once you get to that stage of mental illness, it becomes INCREDIBLY EASY to go back (significantly more than the first breakdown), so he really must maintain himself to keep him internally stabilized. And if he continues, then you must really be asking him--why does he keep doing this to himself, despite the fact that this drug has lost its pleasure?
