How does one do this, what are the ramifications of doing this, etc? I'm really drunk, but I totally know I need to do this, even when I was sober. Thanks in advance.

You can self-admit yourself if your Psychiatrist recommends it. Or you can take the fast track and threaten suicide or homocide. Either way, Mental hospitals aren't fun, to be sure. But yes, DON'T do it drunk.....

You can check yourself in for 72 hours usually, but yeah man, don't do it drunk, wait til you're sober.

I'm not going to do it drunk. I'm slightly sober now, and am waiting for the person who's put me through so much goddamn stress to come and explain themselves, although its kind of hard to explain where you were with your ex-bf for 12 fucking hours.

You have at your disposal many minds, that are on the topic in their free time. We have no motivation to keep you here and to dwell on an issue, we aren't attempting to bill you. Stick with us... I would if I were in your position.
I promise, I won't give you Prozac.... YOU DO NOT HAVE A CHEMICAL IMBALANCE!!  If you do however decide to go.... give them hell if they suggest that you have a chemical imbalance... It's natural to feel this way, don't allow anyone else to tell you otherwise. You're naturally feeling this way right? Depression is a fun learning experience... don't get me wrong or anything when I say that... But really, ultimately you see the futility in your thought processes that are bringing you down.

Mental Hospitals can really fuck you up. If they think you need antipsychotic drugs and pump you full of them you're brain won't be happy. Alot of that crap can give you brain damage that can lead to serious memory problems. Sorta like in Momento, but prolly not as bad.

I'm def not going. I did withdrawl from school, as I owe myself a break regardless of what's happening to me emotionally. The girl didn't go back to her ex-bf, but she's not with me either, although she's expressing interest. I will remain guarded.

A few years ago I was drunk as hell and depressed and thought it was a good idea, to check myself into the nut ward at the hospital. I thought that I could leave when I wanted,boy was I wrong. I was not allowed to leave for 9 days. It sucked, I had to go to bed at 9:00 p.m. and wake up at 7:00 a.m. . Most of the day is filled with group counseling and talking about feelings.
We also had "clay time", that's were they give you a lump of play dough and tell you to mold it into your emotions. If you smoke cigarettes, your only allowed 3 smokes a day and your closely watched, its in a enclosed room with an exhaust fan.
I wasn't allowed with my shoe laces, I had to ask permission to shave and shower, and they had a nurse watch me shower and shave.
They take your blood pressure allot and they kept feeding me mystery pills that made me feel heavy and very sedated.
That was a very, very shitty 9 days and it cost me alittle over 25 grand.

most psychiatrists do suck!
I read about a month ago a book by antonio lobo antunes "the knowledge of hell"
well this writer was a psychiatrist before becoming exclusively a writer and this book is about his first years in a psychiatric hospital
essentially he says psychiatry sucks really big time. they don't understand shit about people's problems, they are themselves pretty crazy and end up stealing away patients emotions and life until they're not more than zombies.
why do you think there are so many suicide attempts in these hospitals? at least while you can still have the energy to want to die. because in the end you don't really want anything. you look at life through a thick glass and it becomes something so distant, you feel so meaningless and hopeless without your emotions (carefully stolen away)... maybe they controlled your anger, but you'll never love again...

Yeah man, the psyche ward is no fun. That's for sure. Costs a lot of money too...
I went to the psyche ward and have had suicidal thoughts on and off for about 5 years now. Sometimes it gets really bad, and it has been recently with my situation. But just stick it out bro. I think of these thoughts as a challenge. A tough challenge. In fact just last night I laid awake for about 5 hours thinking about this shit. I know how it is (at least for me), the thoughts seem like they aren't even yours/or mine, they're intrusive and fuckin annoying. I battle those bitches untill they retreat, untill the next battle.
Suicidal thoughts is a battle that might not ever be completely won, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't fight.
Stand up and fuckin fight man.
