vista
    #8583997 -

i am sure this topic has been discussed here, but i havent been around in a while.

i finally bought a new computer with vista, despite reservations...
i've been using it for about a month now, and haven't had any of the typical problems with a new windows version, but i am still nervous.

anyone else using vista have any real problems with it yet? anything i should know?
btw, it's vista home edition...

Ive had vista installed alongside linux and xp ~6 months ago and haven't had much problems with it either. There are some definate improvements, like the smoothness of initial setup, and the new search features. But since there are programs and games that vista doesn't want to run, i completely stopped using it something like 2 months ago. I just don't see the point. XP all my games and music-related programs just fine, and i use linux for everything else.

well i'm not much of a pc gamer, so i won't likely have problems there.
i haven't run into a programs that give me trouble either...only time will tell.

i had no problems with XP (once a stable version of it finally came out), but this new one came preloaded, and i gave it a shot.

what programs won't run on vista?(yet)

For me its Ableton live and/or Reason, drivers for my midi controller, drivers for computer driven mixer. Could be some other stuff i don't remember right now.

i don't have the demands for external hardware drivers and audio software, so i should be a ok.

i need this machine for writing, and lots of it, and a large music and video library.  add websurfing to that, and my needs are met.  4GB of RAM makes it flow effortlessly
