Program for getting rid of spyware?
    #2146836 - 11/30/03 04:07 PM (13 years, 14 days ago)

I need like a free program or SOMETHING to get rid of this shit on my computer. I went to this site and somehow downloaded something (which I never agree to download ANYTHING) and now everytime I open my browser, i got about 9 pop-ups of the same porn sites. I also have this menu in my browser that says "Adult Link, Sports, Instant Viagra, Best DVDs". LoL, it's funny kinda but fucking annoying, i tried deleteing it but doesn't work. I also have this thing on my desktop that is a shortcut for "Adult Links Daily". I swear... I love porn but not this much!!! How do I get this shit cleared?

Do a search of the pop-up on your hard drive and delete it.

you need to install the following programs: spybot and/or adaware 6.0 (see link above) - I use both.

and spyware blaster. Blaster prevents spyware/adware from being installed in the first place <~~~ essential
Blaster is the defense while the scanners are the offense.

be sure to keep these updated. I never get spyware.

Thanks a lot guys and Shroomism you were right on about adaware ...
I just took my time and read the tutorial..it took away the nasty stuff off my browser...All this could have been prevented by not clicking on all the porn links that people post in OTD...I never signed up for any of that crap ever but all it takes is a click and they get you ..thanks again guys

Sounds like some good advice here!
If I may add... as suggested, I'd recommend using Firebird as well. It's much more secure than IE. It has a built in "pop-up killer". It doesn't allow ActiveX scripting, for another reason. Malicious scripts can enable someone to gain root directory access. (i.e. they can add, alter or delete files on your HD)
But if you must use IE, turn off all ActiveX scripting. This can be done easily (I think..I've not used it in a while) by the following:
Open "Tools" -> "Internet Options" -> "Advanced", then scroll down until you see the ActiveX descriptions. The rest should be self explanatory. Hope that helps as well!
