does anyone have a pic of jars just starting to grow primo? also, do i have to wait for the cake to pin to fruit it?and would it be possible to crumble cakes in a lil foil pan case it and then throw it in an aquarium? thanx for all the great input >THe shroomery

1. I know there's some pictures of colonized jars at fanaticus.com. They look a lot better than my cat's jars, but her's still fruited fine.
2. I'm not sure what you mean in your second question. Pins are the little mushrooms that will either develop to maturity (continue growing until the cap opens) or abort (stop growing, caps don't open and turn black). So yes, you must have pins before you can have full grown mushrooms. Some claim that allowing the cakes to begin pinning in the jars (in vitro) will make for a larger first flush. My kitty didn't notice much difference in yield between the cakes that had pins when birthed and the ones that didn't. However, the ones with pins began fruiting almost immediately after birthing while the ones without pins took a few days longer to fruit.
3. Yes, you can crumble the cakes and case them if you want to. If it's your first time I wouldn't case all of your cakes in case you screw it up. My cat did this and has had good results.
