To cut the cake or,crumble when casing?
    #371097 - 08/13/01 12:00 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

Is it better to crumble your cakes or cut them when casing?I just tossed out my first casing,it did pretty good I cut my cakes.I Was just wondering if there is a big differance. Most of the casing tecs I have read tell U to crumble.

TRY,TRY,TRY,UNTILL U SUCCEED.YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE UNTILL YOU HAVE GIVEN UP!

Crumble into marble sized chunks. Hands off! Put them in a ziplock and with your hands on the outside, break up those cakes.

Better to crumble whole cakes when casing? Why not cut cakes into appropriate slabs say 1 to 2" thick and then crumble to fill in the areas in and around cakes/slabs? Is there really a difference between these 2 methods in the way the casing will be utilized or is it more of just a preference?

I think that crumbling the entire cake is better because this makes the mycelium network stronger (since it has to repair more of itself) therefore making "stronger" mushrooms. I don't know if this is true or not, but it makes sense to me...

I am still a newbie at this , but from my experience crumbling has done much better for me, I tried slicing them once, thinking that I could get a nice even layer, but the mycelium growth seemed to be alot slower compared to the crumbled cakes
