Try contacting the manufacturer of the software. That older, propietary software is a pain.

To do any reverse engineering of the software would probably be more trouble than what its worth (Depends on how much you like your dad )

There are ALOT of different file converters out there which I'm sure you're aware of... I'd contact the manufacturer of the software and see if they have any upgrades or patches.

The video software hopefully should be able to export to a flat file format like text/ascii. And msSQl should be able to import from that too. Then you don't have to bother writing any conversion code at all.

What is the database extension file ?
As it was said before, the easiest way is to export your actual files to ASCII or DBF format, make a porting routine and import the data to the new format. I work with this kind of stuff btw, feel free to make any question.
