The Avett Brothers are cool if you consider them as folk.

If you enjoy older folk:
The Carter Family
Dock Boggs
Woody Guthrie
Pete Seeger
Bob Dylan

Thanks, I'm all over that list.

Bjunt, I'm already familiar with some of the older stuff (minus Boggs, I'll look him up).

Glick, the reason I have to ask in the first place is because folk is so hard to classify. Never usually run into these kind of walls on the internet.

New Folk / Rock:

Tunng
Jack Rose
Timber Timbre
Jim O' Rourke
Angels of Light
Phosphorescent
Tulsa Drone
The Ruby Suns

I'm not sure if they are all American or Folk for that matter.
Some of these can be found in the Indie Album Thread.

Oh and Sufjan Stevens. I don't really like his other stuff, but this is a great song.

qft, except they're actually kind of doing something that's never been done before

get to see them for like the 15th time next weekend

:monkeydance:

everybodyfields (folky/bluegrassy)
justin townes earle
damien rice
gillian welch
kimya dawson
nick drake (although, not really current)
ray lamontagne

personally, i wouldn't consider devendra folk, unless you're listening to his first album 'oh me oh my', everything else is kinda folk-rock/psychedelic-rock

there are tons of others, but they are generally all mixed in with bluegrass and other branches of roots/traditional music and blues

'Dispatch' in my opinion fits in there somewhere, even though some of their stuff is electric, they are broken up now.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.
