Irony
    #8406903 -

I have a very loose grasp on what this word actually means. What do you think it means? What are some examples of irony?

--------------------
“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Irony is when an outcome is the opposite of what you would expect out of the given situation.

For example it would be ironic if a healthy, vital 20 year old man and a decrepit 80 year old woman were in a car crash and the 20 year old guy died while the old woman was uninjured.

Irony is widely misunderstood. That clip about hilary's favorite horse losing and breaking its ankles is not irony at all, its just funny. And the scenario of someone beating you up right after you were joking about someone getting beaten up, thats not really irony either, its just funny.

Ah, that explains it.  Typical know-it-all noob.  We get a few thousand just like you register here every year.  They try a few grows, fail miserably and then after a few months or one bad trip, go back to sniffing glue, never to be seen again.

We have a basic pf tek that's idiot proof enough for noobs to get fucked up with their friends.

Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing.  They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end.  They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection.  These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease.

Finally, an accurate description of irony. Didn't your highschool english teachers tell you about how every 'example' of irony in that alanis morissette song is wrong, and not actually irony?

That story everyone had to read in English class when the guy sells his priceless watch to buy a comb for his wifes beautiful long hair she has been growing since she was a kid. And his wife sells her beautiful long hair to buy her husband a chain for his watch.

I liked that one CD of hers too.

"It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife."  Is that an ironic statement?  Someone told me it isn't.

isn't it sort of ironic that a song titled ironic isn't the least bit ironic?

its just a saying. why go searching for 10,000 spoons when all you need to do is just get a knife. i can see how that would be a problem if knives were hard to come by. and 10,000 spoons would be kinds of hard to count.

LOL, I liked that CD too when I was real young. I have never admitted to that until now. I was too young to be wanting to fuck her, but if it had been a few years later i'm sure I would have been all about it.

That's where I figured the irony lay, if indeed irony was in the offing.  :awesome:
