Is it that shocking really...? An Arab guy who used to fight in the Iraqi Army not being let in. Given the increased security after 9/11, I'm not surprised that somebody of his background would be refused entrance.

It goes deeper than that. He's Arab. The people most likely to engage in terrorism are Muslim or Arab males. Also, there is an extremist Muslim population in Britain (as can be seen by the London subway/bus bombings of about a year ago).

I'm not saying this guy is a terrorist or anything. I'm just saying that it is not surprising that he was denied entrance into the country.
