I have a very loose grasp on what this word actually means. What do you think it means? What are some examples of irony?

Irony is when an outcome is the opposite of what you would expect out of the given situation.

For example it would be ironic if a healthy, vital 20 year old man and a decrepit 80 year old woman were in a car crash and the 20 year old guy died while the old woman was uninjured.


Irony is widely misunderstood. That clip about hilary's favorite horse losing and breaking its ankles is not irony at all, its just funny. And the scenario of someone beating you up right after you were joking about someone getting beaten up, thats not really irony either, its just funny.

its just a saying. why go searching for 10,000 spoons when all you need to do is just get a knife. i can see how that would be a problem if knives were hard to come by. and 10,000 spoons would be kinds of hard to count.
