Nothing can fully prove evolution, as the opposing theory is essentially unfalsifiable. For any conceivable proof, the intelligent design crowd could simply say "No, God created it ['to test our faith' / 'because he works in mysterious ways' / whatever other reason]".

Personally I find the Platypus overrated. It's slightly bird-like phenotypic traits aren't a result of direct lineage to a bird-like ancestor, but rather an example of convergent evolution; environmental conditions were such that it was beneficial for the species to evolve those traits. Using it to try to prove evolution isn't only futile, it's a little unthoughtful too, IMO. The fossil record is a much better lot of evidence, but it too can't one up an unfalsifiable theory.

I don't see why religion and science have to be in disagreement on this topic.
I believe that a supreme being, God of Abraham created the fabric of the universe and all other universes. Created matter, time, physical laws, etc.
From there, matter coalesced into stars and planets because of the physical laws of gravity and all that.
On some planets, molecules joined together to form simple organic building blocks, eventually cells formed, and because of the laws of nature, complex life evolved from simple things.
Maybe somewhere along the line God intervened and gave a particularly advanced group of apes souls, and man was born.

I believe in that because I choose to believe in a God, because I've seen evidence of the supernatural I can't explain through normal means. I reconcile the two theories because I've seen too much evidence for evolution to say that it doesn't happen.
Creationism doesn't have to be so simple that God literally created one creature after another, from amoebas to man. That seems remarkably simple for a supreme being that created the entire universe. It would seem to me that creationism is far more complex and wonderful than the standard "God created the world in 6 days" story.

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

To further rant about evolution-
People who don't believe in evolution remind me of people who thought the earth was still the center of the universe when there was loads of mathematical data gathered to suggest otherwise.
Just because you can't leave the planet to observe it orbiting the sun, or step out of time to witness these genetic changes occurring over millennia, doesn't mean its not the troof for realsies.
