Nice!
You know, with all the public debate about the benefits of Marijuana, I was kind of sad that my lil fun-guys would never get any media converage. It's refreshing to see this.

Quote from news article: The volunteers were randomly assigned to take either 30 milligrams of psilocybin (chemically synthesized, not extracted from mushrooms) or 40 milligrams of methylphenidate, the stimulant sold as Ritalin. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/10/AR2006071001304.html
Ok, I was wondering, but too lazy to figure out how many grams of dried cubensis this dosage of "30 milligrams" would equal.

Found this on MAPS site: Potency and Dosage
Due to species variation, psilocybin mushrooms differ in potency. For example, concentrations of psilocybin in Psilocybe cubensis is about 2 mg/gm, whereas the quite potent Psilocybe semilanceata averages around 12.8 mg/gm in fresh specimens. Potency can also vary between strains of the same species, or even between various mushroom "flushings," ========================================= Ok, 2mg/gm of cubensis, does this mean they were given the equivalent of 15 gms. of dried cubensis? I know that this isn't 100% accurate because of the other active compounds in the natural source. Wow! still quite a hefty dosage!

They're talking about fresh grams, not dried. 15g fresh is a low-moderate dose.

They were probably given an equivalent, of 1 - 1.5 grams. Which is still a pretty good amount, especially in that kind of setting.

Really who wants to sit in a room blindfolded and listening to classical.. You need something to "touch" the senses. Wether it be flashing strobe lights and vicks, or the sun and the sweet smells of flowers. I prefer the later for profound thinking

this is excellent...actually a user posted in my thread concerning lsd as pain medication saying that a MAJOR study on psilocybin with truely amazing findings was gonna be published within a few months(this is it) and could be catalyst for a new era of research..but he admitted this may be wishful thinking...I'm curious how he knew about this
excellent!

Psilocybin has been used for centuries in religious practices, and its ability to produce a mystical experience is no surprise. But the new work demonstrates it more clearly than before, Griffiths said.
Even two months after taking the drug, pronounced SILL-oh-SY-bin, most of the volunteers said the experience had changed them in beneficial ways, such as making them more compassionate, loving, optimistic and patient. Family members and friends said they noticed a difference, too.
Charles Schuster, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and a former director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, called the work a landmark.
"I believe this is one of the most rigorously well-controlled studies ever done" to evaluate psilocybin or similar substances for their potential to increase self-awareness and a sense of spirituality, he said. He did not participate in the research.

I tried to get in on that study at Hopkins (the school is right close to me) and they told me to bugger off because Iused tobacco and the study needed non-tobacco users.
They said that if they were ever going to do a study involving fuck-ups then I am right near the top of the list.

I think it's wild that they found exposure in the media ... and it's even more wild that they are having official federally-sponsored research with regular people on reasonable doses ...
but mushrooms should stay out of the media as much as possible to avoid creating any sort of strong feelings in people about them ...
