Evolution
    #5629087 - 05/14/06 04:31 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Why does this photo show a fluctuation of heights in human evolution? I thought we grew taller according to the theory?

Like this

But anyways how do u guys think the next step of human evolution will be? How much taller will we be? How much smarter? Will we be less aggressive and more tactical? Will we be smart enough to have world peace?

well, we didnt evolve from just one species either, we are a mix of species according to the theory. I think it was sapien and homo erectus that met and made us, but im not to sure, that was many semesters ago

peace

i think the "growing taller" in the pictures has little to do with us becoming larger and more to do with us becoming more upright. In fact with so much overpopulation I'd guess we will shrink to make more room.

Evolution rarely progresses along such a linear path like shorter -> taller. Height will be different at various points along an evolutionary path because the environmental stresses as well as coping abilities of the animal change over time.

When we first began to walk upright, humans relied much more on brute strength for survival than we did on intelligence and mental capabilities. As a result we got larger and taller.

Somewhere along the line we began to use our heads more for survival than we did brue strength - so a human no longer had to be as tall or strong to acheive the same level of survival. From this point on it actually becomes adventageous to be smaller and more agile.

But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

to chime in on the second part of your question I don't believe humans will evolve physically any longer. Our minds and ideas can evolve far faster than we can biologically. To give an example: if we were to enter another ice age we would simply come up with better ways of keeping warm with clothing and shelter rather than grow thicker more coarse hair over our bodies and developing shorter and squatter bodies

ok, to answer the first posts' question

the whole of humanity is just spirialing downward, evolution is almost soley going to happen on individual basis

the next step for our race (as a whole) and for the individuals is to that of the non physical realm

but few mortals are ready for that shift

perhaps faster but not completely, evolution will still continue, this is not our most advanced form

our reptilian brain has changed very little through evolution but the other parts of our brain have grown drastically through the course of evolution. Scientist believe this occurred either to increase our ability to make tools or for social reasons. If this progress continues future humans will be taller/slimmer,less hairy and far more intelligent beings kinda reminds you of

perhaps eventually we will evolve far past homo sapiens and into something greater

What would be the reason for us getting taller? There isn't any need for taller or reaching up or out. We dont need to get taller to survive.

In my view of the world it seems we will be getting smaller and fatter. Our asses and legs will not be needed as much as our eyes and fingures.

this is definitely possible maybe this is as upright as we get..... but was it neccessary for survival for apes to get taller? they did

Apes are rather large and the bodies bone sctructure is more compacted. Not smaller but hunched over.  Like a guy with bad posture but wurse.  That prolly why we got back troubles!  Our bodies are constantly wanting to go backwards to its original roots.  You know we got to get higher!

I might not be looking highley of our planitary situations at the moment.  As long as we keep reaching to the sky id say we are on the right track, but maybe we shouldnt be?!?!?! :sun:

The flowers will secrete n,n-dimethyltryptamine which is leeched from the brain mold substrate. It will crystallize along the stems and be available to be harvested and smoked.

This will become an integral part of human social interaction, much the way apes groom one another, highly evolved humans will congregate and gather DMT from one another's dancing brain flowers.

The fuck you talking about, dude?

"If this process continues,"

you make it seem like we're collectively evolving, evolution is a long random action that occurs on an individual basis and depending on the successes of that mutated organism (degree of reproduction), can transfer to a greater population down the line... perhaps.

"Taller/slimmer,"

Yeah I'm not seeing any indication of this. Nor do I see the scientific merit behind how this and the "reptilian" brain theory correlate to this conclusion.

If you haven't noticed the magnitude of genetic diversity within the human species, well, you should.

Perhaps our successes can be attributed to this said variability and its consequent "mastery" of the environment in which it developed.

Unless we selectively breed, there will be short, there will be tall, and there will be the "in between."

"More intelligent,"

Hmmm... HHHMMMMMMM.

If society were to continue down this path in which, whether consciously or not, we're basically catering to biological drives in the most enjoyable fashion, and obscuring the importance of personal intellectual pursuits, subjective/abstract thinking and over-all curiousity; it's doubtful the populace majority will be getting smarter.

I've got the solution, too, biologically adept women should breed with me, and we can selectively propagate the resulting generation.

Eventually arriving at a darker version of the Ubeurmaensch!

From what little I can remember new and unusual traits show up in populations over large periods of time, some traits persist while others vanish, the persistant traits that develop and dont perish eventually become the population
Is it illogical to presume what has happened will continue to happen...ape became ape/man which becam man which could become man/______? if we were to fast foward 100 million years in the future and look at present day humans would our body and mind would be unchanged? history has show otherwise..... Im simply inferring and asking if how we have changed could be a window for how we will change

you sound like you know much more on evolution than me so fill me in

you dont see how through the corse of evolution we have grown more upright and could continue?.....
I brought in the reptiailian brain to illustrate that we are still animals, young animals at that our brains havent changed substantially in something like 100 or 200 thousand years and the progress of our brain will be less animal like and more logical...

Could evolution continue as it has? I kinda create my own theories so i dont know.....whats the truth? or most logical answer?
