Mycobag
    #8364881 -

So I have used the PF tek before and have moved into a new apt. and my roomie is ready to grow again. I am interested in trying out myc bags I was thinking of making a 2 pound grain based myc bag. I am wondering a few questions about the birthing part.

I would like to birth the substrate into my FC. I am wondering what effect this would have on the yield. Since there will be more of a surface area would that mean that the flushes would be larger but not as plentiful.

Also if I was to make a 2 pound myc bag how big size wise would that be. height, width, depth

I am looking into casing i've been reading up for like 2 weeks now I'm just paranoid of contams. How many trays would that be using 2 pounds of substrate. I'm actually buying it and they haven't gotten back to me yet with the dimensions.

i also use 2 lb mycobags. they are like 15 inches tall, and maybe like 8 x 5 on the bottom. i usually crumble one whole bag into an aluminum tray and case with mgmc. you dont have to worry about contams so much once your substrate is 100% colonized. i always just use my hands to crumble and make everything even in the tray and i haven't had any contams. have you read hyphae's pinning strategy? that is what got me started into casings. gl.

How big of a tray did you use? and how have your results been?

I would spawn the colonized grain to poo or coco coir if you don't have access to poo. As far as the weight of the bag goes, I wouldn't even bother weighing it. You want to go by volume, not weight. Weight can vary by substrate and water content. Fill the container you want to use for casing about half way with the dry grains. Then use that amount in your bag. The grains will expand when they are hydrated and should fit the tray perfectly. If you are spawning to a bulk substrate, you would obviously have to figure out what volume would fit in the tray when combined with the grain spawn.

i'd say the tray was about 10 x 14, they have them at walmart in the kitchen section. i think they are for cooking turkeys. my results are much better compared to when i used to fruit out of the bag. i usually get 1 oz dried per flush, for about 2-3 flushes. after that the mycelium gets pretty weak and contams.
