Hello shroomers, lately Ive been having thoughts of a maintence free or almost maintence free terrarium. I recently decided to go back to basics... good old PF cakes. They have been inoculated now I think I shall begin the building soon but Id like to go over my plan with those more experienced than I which would be almost any of you guys likely. :eek:

The size of the terrarium is as of yet undecided I have been eyeing this 32 gal clear rubbermaid at my local store... Im going for something that will be large enough to hold enough PF cakes to THEORETICALLY harvest 2 Ozs to 4 Ozs over 3-5 flushes. Currently I have 10 jars (relish jars I couldnt find any replacement jars that were open mouth this time of year) of Tasmania and PF original cubensis doing there thing I inoculated them maybe 24 hours ago once I get my first real sign of growth Ill upload some pics. Real quick on the whole relish jar thing (I know shame on me shame) Years ago when I did my first PF cake after colonization the cake shrank within the jar a sizeable amount before rehydrating via the dunk and roll tek, therefore I am hoping to be able to tap that S.O.B. cake out the jar without breaking the cake or the jar, but if doesnt happen I do have a plan b. Crumble and case Teks are amazing, need I say more? But as I said I am hoping to stick to the dunk and roll... Well see.

Now lets take a moment to show you how I calculated my approximate future yield. If all 10 of my cakes take Ill be a happy boy, so lets calculate from that perspective. From past experience I can say that my little 10 oz cakes should put out anywhere from 3 to 7 grams dried weight, dern unpredictable PF cakes. But break it down: 10 X 3-7 = 30-70 grams / 28 = 2.5 ozs at maximum yield, or just a hair over an oz at minimum (pretty easy huh?)

Now back to the terrariums build... I have been planning to use an aquarium air pump and a bubble stone suspended in a maybe 40 oz "vat" (also known as a big plastic cup.) cut a hole in the terrarium feed the line from the aquarium air pump and secure the vat. Next part I am not sure how I am going to do... I am thinking 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch hole then put whatever type of microbial filter that I can over it then take this 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch hole and cover it with a PC fan that I have been letting sit prepared if I ever find my spare at power supply if I cant find it... then will need a different fan. But real quick I plan to have the fan right next the my filter and time it to run 4 hours automatically every day (the intake port where the fan would be would be toward the lower area of my terrarium) and on the opposite side toward the top another 1/2 by 1/2 hole with the filter secured over it therefore automatically "fanning" my mushies once per day. I have other concepts for my grow area but first what do you folks think of my automatic fan idea? plausible? second does my formula for calculating my yield seem correct? I don't know what gave me the idea for my humidifier... would it work though? I have things to get done but Ill add some more details later tonight, Thanks shroomers!!
