 spawning question (I'm New to Growing mushies)

I was just wondering if this senario for growing is possible.
i wanted to create 1 fruting cake, let it turn white and place it in a blender with sterile water and chop it up.
my question is... If i were to do this would i be able to spread the blended cake/water throughout a growing medium (the same that i used to make the cakes with) and have the mushies colonize the whole growing medium
if not what would be a better way to grow using a larger area?
generally what i would like to do is have a much larger cake than would come out of a jar.

no, it won't work. If you want a big cake, use whole rye, then after it is fully colonized, shake it out of the jars and fill a bread or pie pan with it. This is by far not the best way to grow in bulk, but it's how to get a big cake. Read the faq's on growing.

Ok let me ask another question then what would be the best way to produce a mass quantity of shrooms? say somehwere around 1/4-1/2 lbs?

I have never heard of that method Thai. did tou just make it up? I suppose it might work, but wouldn't you want to crumble the cakes and mix with damp hay?

I am Living In an apartment complex and pest control people can just come in as they please, i only have a small out door patio so growing outdoors isn't an option. manure would stink up my closet too much. i am looking for something in the ways of a rubbermaid laundry basket lookin container. can anyone point me to a good grow guide that doesn't require the cakes? Would it be possable to grow shrooms the way you would in a canning jar but in the bottom of my rubbermaid contianer?

Your getting way ahead of yourself. Have you ever grown mushrooms before? Don't expect 1/2lb from a rubbermaid container.

Basically what i am trying to do is gather info before i even attempt it. my first few grows are going to consist of 4 cakes or so. I wanna get the hang of it before i try anyting to produce mass i was just curious as to the teqnuques used to produce the most shrooms for my money.
