Your previous post.

You don't need to start a new thread every time you encounter the tiniest of stumbling blocks.  There are already a billion threads on how to pasteurize substrates the right way.  Put a little effort into what you're doing here, and you'll get a lot more respect from the community.  Every time you cut corners and try to save time, or effort, you put your grow a little closer to failure.  Pasteurize your coir!!  And, do it right.  Take the extra time, and spend the extra $20 to get whatever it is you need to do it right.  You'll be glad you did.

Seriously, pasteurization is retard easy, and the tek you linked in your post above is perfect for what you're doing.  Follow it and quit trying to skimp.  You'll be glad you did it right when you're looking at trays full of mature mushrooms, and not three pins on a cake you cut corners on.

Another tip on the search engine is to click the "Only show one result per thread," box, under the entry fields. Also, you'll filter out a lot of crap if you only search in the MushCult forum.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of spawn ratio are you using?

I just got back from doing some shopping!I bought some pint-jars and some quart jars at Michael's.Then I went to K-Mart and bought a fancy 20-dollar meat thermometer(its so cool).OH yeah,I also bought a brick of coir at Petsmart. So this is what Ima do...
1.Pour simmering/boiling water in a cooler.Add some gypsum, coffee grounds, and a tiny bit of blood meal.Mix water thoroughly to blend the additives. Then I'll add a half-brick of coco coir..and let the cooler sit for maybe an hour. After it cools..I'm shred the coir manually..and get it to field capacity.
2.Put field-capacity coir in a large Reynold's Oven bag,and stick the probe of my fancy thermometer in the core of the coir(sounds cheesy I know). Then I'll pour hot tap water in a large pot..get the water nice and hot.
3.When the temp.of the coir reaches 160..Ill cook it for maybe 45 minutes(too little??).Then I'll turn heater off.and let the coir cool down in the pot. When it cools down..I'll take thermo. out and close the bag's neck nice and tight.
4.In my GB,Ill open the oven bag,put some coir in a alcohol sprayed aluminum pan, then put a half-pint of WBS in it...mix thoroughly, then cover with Glad cling wrap.Put holes in the wrap..and cover holes with alcohol soaked Micro pore.
5.Cover cling wrap with aluminum foil..and place tray in the nice, warm, dark cabinet above my fridge.
6.After the sub fully colonizes,I'll case with 50/50 with lime and gypsum added to it.
7.Patch,fruit..and ENJOY!!

Any input, comments or general tips about my procedure??Thanks guys..for allowing me to learn about the wonderful hobby that is mycology:thumbup:

Much, much closer..
I would do it like this.

1) Add boiling water to half brick coir. After expanded (~10 minutes), shred. Drain excess water.

2) Now, add coffee, gypsum, and whatever else to coir. (I'd skip the blood meal, but that's me.) Adjust mixture to field capacity.

3) Put mix in oven bag. Put probe in center of bag. Seal. Put in large pot filled with water.

4) When core of coir reaches ~150, start clock. Maintain this temp for 1 hour. Remove from water. Cool overnight.

5) Next day, spawn. No need for GB, or alcohol spray. Line aluminum with black plastic bag to prevent mycelium from eating holes in aluminum (this happens) and help prevent side pinning. Mix. Cover with cling wrap. Poke four holes in cling wrap, and seal with micropore. Skip second layer of aluminum.

6) Place tray in the nice, not-too-warm, dark cabinet above fridge. After full colonization case with 50/50+. PH adjust casing with hydro lime but, DON'T BURN IT WITH HYDRO LIME!! Skip gypsum. Gypsum is for bulks, lime is for casings.

7) Patch, fruit.. and ENJOY!!

Coir is my favorite substrate by far and I can honestly say I have ever done anything to pasteurize it ever unless you count hydrating in in extremely hot water

Blutjager I realize this. But after careful consideration..I know it will be allot better if I pasteurize..Plus I have all the correct tools and techniques..why not go for it?Thedefone, why is it better to mix additives AFTER you hydrate the coir?Any tips on that? And suppose my kitchen is filthy..should I use a GB??Thanks

The reason I do it is so that I can adjust the ratios more easily. If you measure out your coffee, gypsum and whatever else before you know how much coir you have, you may end up adding too much gypsum (10% max) or something.

If your kitchen is really messy, it can't hurt to use a GB. Also, if your glove box is too small, and you don't have much room in there, you can do all your spawning in a clear plastic trash bag.. It'll work well enough.

well first off i have only done one coir project and i hydrated in a cooler with boiling water and the temp dropped right down to about 175 and stayed about that for an hour so what me and Blutjager are doing is like hydrating and pasteurizing in one step.

because it is kinda hard to add shit to that compressed bock that is solid as a rock.
