taken from merriam webster; the definition of religion:

2: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices...

you cannot not have religion, unless you believe nothing (which is still a system of belief/practice). everyone believes something.

there are so many who claim "i don't like organized religion". that philsophy is quite convenient (no accountability) and easy to follow (does that mean that the one who says it has followed some shape of
organization?)

besides, is it really Christianity you hate, or just the doctrines of the minority who have implemented their own teachings/beliefs/practices under the banner of Christianity?
corruption, deceit, malice, slander, immorality, hypocrisy are everywhere, not just in Christendom. It just so happens that most Christians are stereotyped based on the actions of some. for example,
i'm a born-again follower of Christ who enjoys getting stoned and meddling with psychedelics, and a good beer. I think we should all be able to partake of those things freely, and I see no contradiction between those things and the teachings of Christ (except that most psychedelics/drugs/"entheos" are illegal, which needs changing, of course).

i agree that people should question and try and look and find-out for themselves (as i have done, to some extent), but i highly doubt that most of those people dislike every system of organized beliefs (be it Christianity, Buddhism, Science, Math, Language or whatever else).
but back to the subject of Christianity, i hope that you will actually look at Christ, and not the church (especially as the media covers it, or the ones who divert from the teachings of Christ).

i despise any "religion" based about giving your life over to an all-powerful creator-being for fear of what happens otherwise


i see most religious people as weak-minded and naive and view religion itself as a crutch


if it wasn't for the power these groups/entities take and maintain, i doubt i'd have as much against them

religion is actually JUST LIKE DRUGS
its a false sense of reality
and u can argue drugs make u see things for wut they really are
and same with religion
but compared to true reality it is false, although u can learn things about true reality in ur false reality

I don't understand why people blame religion for problems. The problem lies in people, and the stupid ways they interpret religions. They would do the same thing if you gave them a fucking rock with some scribbles on it in place of religion.

i dont think of psychadellics as going to work i think of them as being dragged through work...

something that is fun but not something to be gee golly about until after the fact when you already have been there

some dude i know, who used to be cool and smoke weed and eat mushrooms turned into a psychotic christian after going to jesus camp. he will not give up on trying to convert me. he would continually post verses out of the bible on my facebook. shit got annoying. i told him to stop with it because theres no way ill ever become a christian. i cant buy the whole jesus story and everything. i told him if there is a hell, then i dont care if i go, because ill probably be there with all of my friends. and that i dont want to be in heaven with a bunch of arrogant christians.

I can totally relate to that statement.  Well, aside from the despising part.  I just think that it's okay to not be in agreement with every single general idea of a particular religion.  Who says you can't take a religion and put your own spin on it?  If you can allow yourself to do that then you can avoid having to completely shun something and possibly even feel better about yourself.

Like I was brought up Catholic but I think that being a decent Christian is more important and perhaps that just following the golden rule is the most important thing of all.  But I'm certainly not a church-goer and I find some of the beliefs of Catholics to be absurd.  There's really no way anyone can truly know what to believe during our stay here so I can't accept that people will be judged based on their beliefs.  Beyond that, I have a hard time even comprehending the idea that I'll be judged by a being that (aside from possibly being within me) hasn't gone through exactly what I have.  Perhaps the most ridiculous thing of all is not eating meat on Fridays in Lent.  Not sure how that all started but I guess it's supposed to be about sacrifice.  I just think it's silly.  Like I can even remember when Lent is. :rolleyes:

But I take what I can relate to in Christianity and leave the rest alone.  I'm a pretty open minded person so if millions of people say that Christ was the son of God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again on the third day then who am I to debate that?  I just don't understand the hatred towards Christianity and Christ these days.  It just seems to be constantly thrown out there without much to back it up.  People tend to lose the forest through the trees and forget that the main thing is tolerance.  TOL-ER-ANCE!  Ya know? :shrug:
