well what about male and female? it takes more faith i think to say this all happened coincidentally then to think their might have been a creator that designed us to be able to reproduce sounds more likely then "the perfect temperature was around for carbon to produce and every animal just coincidentally comes in 2 sexes" (dont rag on me and say their are some hermaphrodytes

Well seeing as how sexual reproduction increases potential diversity, it's not strange to think that life would have eventually evolved this way.

The elegant universe is also an awesome movie about this subject... It was the best movie I ever saw tripping too!

I read a really interesting article a few weeks ago about this. Basically, it may not be real!
Scientists confirmed the existence of a tiny carbon thread-like substance floating throughout space. When they realized that these enormous clouds of virtually invisible material have been abosrbing light from distant stars, it threw a bit of a wrench into the dark matter theory.

Basically all of the observations and measurements of the expanding universe have led science to believe that there is way too little visible matter in the universe to explain the amount of gravity neccessary to move everything the way it seems to be moving.

But now, we've realized that all of those measurements may very well be very wrong! with these carbon filiments floating around absorbing light, we have not gotten a very accurate account of distance and motion of galaxies and stars..

None of this has been proven, obviously; it's still a very recent discovery.
but pretty fascinating!

The problem is if you believe in one creator that made everything we know, ultimately you have to believe that creator always existed and nothing came before it.

Which logically, in my mind, takes you to an equally paradoxical conclusion: either god came from nothing or space/time and matter came from nothing.

How often will something happen if the chance of it happening per trial is tiny, but you have an infinite number of trials?

I would say that the fact that every animal has two sexes(though not everything has two sexes) would fit the evolutionary theory just as easy as the creation belief. It would just suggest a successful model and since all life could have a common ancestor if you go far enough back.

The beginning of life and the universe is a big mystery that won't be solved likely any time soon.

Uhhh, no. Certainly one could believe that one creator made everything we know, but has not always existed and something did come before it/him. Thats not a paradox at all. There is no evidence for it, but it is possible.

No matter how you slice it, from the way our minds reason, existence is impossible, yet we exist, so therefore there's something flawed with the way we perceive. Perhaps, since we are created it's impossible to think of something always existing without having been created. Thus the question, 'OK if God created the universe who created God?' It's impossible for us to comprehend something just always having existed (how did it start) or starting from nothing and there's no getting around the idea that everything we believe leads us to conclude that our very existence is impossible, yet here we are, existing. That makes me think that maybe there's a God because God is something we obviously cannot comprehend and the answer has to be incomprehensible. But then again, that's not much better than saying something started from nothing. All the fuck I know is that I'll never fucking know and I hope there is no God because if there is it has to be one seriously frightening motherfucker to have created this Goddamn monstrosity.

answers DO NOT COME for this question. it defeats the purpose of EXISTING if you understand the meaning of your own existence to a 'T'. This will be misunderstood, but what I mean to articulate is what can be found under 'What Big Bang' in TIHKAL.

The Big Bang is a good theory, yet many problems exist which are being exemplified with more recent physical/cosmological discoveries. The singularity theories are similar in ways to theories such as 'string' theories and 'theological' theories.

There is no evidence to disprove these theories, yet it is becoming empirically necessary to see such things as a fit of the facts around the theory, which is one of the reasons classical economic theory is so flawed and destructive to societal needs for those without the power to manipulate statistics.

The above is semantics, yet, I suggest you take three large N2O shots and then truthfully say that the universe, 'just started'. :cool:

I am talking about if you go far enough back there has to be something that always existed. If there is a creator that created everything we know but something came before it, then I'm talking about what created the creator.

So basically what I was saying was no matter if you believe in a creator or not you still must struggle with similar problems. Either everything always was or a god always was.
