Grateful Dead Press Conference... 4/24 - 11am PST

New Partnership Between UCSC and GDP

April 24th at 11:00am Pacific Time, Bob Weir and Mickey Hart will participate in a press conference from the Fillmore Auditorium to announce an important new partnership between GDP and the University of California at Santa Cruz. Fans, scholars and Dead Heads of all kinds can watch this event live on dead.net courtesy of iclips.net. Streaming video of the broadcast will be available for a period of time after the conference as well. Fire up your browsers and tune in!


I suspect this will probably be about archival information regarding the Dead's Vault of music data, and perhaps a history museum at the UCSC campus. As a former Banana Slug, I'm pretty stoked! Just thought some of you Dead heads might want to catch the show, which should get underway any minute now...

Yep, they'll be deadicating a room in the McHenry library as Dead Central, and will freely host the entire Grateful Dead archive at UCSC!  :woot:
There was even a shoutout to Fred Lieberman, my ol' music professor.  He was awesome :laugh:

This archive will not be music only, it will include videos, interviews, reviews, artifacts,
and all sorts of little tid-bits that have been collected over the decades of Dead history!

The physical transfer of material to the University will take place over the next many months,
from a 2000 square foot wherehouse with thousands of pieces north of the city of San Francisco.

It will take some time to catalogue, organize, and digitize all the material, but they have stated their full intention to provide as much information as possible for public access through the web.

Also, this is NOT likely to include sound boards from the get go.  Unfortunately, those are still owned by Rhino records, and kept in their vault here in Southern California.  The hope is that the partnership with a public university with a goal of historic preservation rather than profit, will help stimulate an agreement with Rhino to host their data at the university as well. 

For now, Rhino is still playing the part of the corporate whore! :crazy2:

all i have that might be worth anything is an original promotional vinyl of From the Mars Hotel in mint condition.

I doubt thats worth preserving.

i can't wait to head up to SC when that thing is done, it'll be like Dead Heaven

not bad, last time i had C and it was still terrific.

can't believe MULE is opening, it's going to be EPIC. and i bet warren and bobby are gonna jam together at alot of random points throughout the night.

I'm section B for Phil + Friends, and I sat section B for the last RatDog... that's definitely a nice spot - you'll have more of an opportunity to rest your bones on your fancy bucket chair if you need to!  Down in the Pit, there won't be much space for sittin' I reckon.  But hey, I don't usually go to these shows to sit around! :wink:
