i think we are equal but we each bring something different to the table. Men need some of what women offer and women need some of what men offer in my opinion

Men and women both have there talents. Our brains are wired a bit differently mainly because of womens role as child bearers.

In my experience women are often very good at organization, i think this is because as mothers they could have to organize a lot of children in a limited time frame.

Now days caring for children is more equally distributed between men and women. But back in cave man times it was mainly women who raised children because nobody really new who the father was. People obviously knew who the mother was because they saw the child come out of her.

So it was mainly the womens job to raise a child, and possibly many children because they didn't have contraception and pregnancy wasn't completely understood.

This actually gave women a lot of power in the early tribes. These tribes were actually dominated by women, because they were always the care giver and thus head of the family. Also there was no father to respect because you didn't know who your dad was.

So the early tribes were actually matriarchal with women as the leaders, while todays society is patriarchal with men as the leaders.

definitely, but as a child, I would still much rather have a female nurse to take care of me in grade school. Women are more compassionate and caring than men, again, for the most part, not every single time.




If there was a position for a school nurse, I would look at both a male or female candidate for compassion and being qualified for the job as well as any other job related tasks that needed to be performed. If I was looking for a a speaker, someone with language skill would be important as well as someone who presented well in appearance since people are visual (IE; no seriously ugly, speech impediment people).

I think all of you misinterpreted my last post.

I specifically stated that in OFFICE settings there should be an equal amount of men and women because of the natural population. I don't think there should be gender-equal lumberjack hiring.

I don't think any of you realized that I said company's shouldn't have to STRETCH or pick a less qualified candidate because they are a woman. Women make up half the population and they are statistically (in a perfect world) just as qualified.

As for engineers/math majors feeding into predominantly male fields, I think this reflects a problem in the way we are educating women in science and math in this country.

For instance, I'm pursuing a career in education. A science teacher in one of the local high schools where I live sets up lab experiments that he helps the students complete. At the beginning of the labs, he tells the boys to come to the front of the room, and tells the girls they can "just sit and talk for a while".

Gender discrimination starts young in math and science. It doesn't help that fucking whack jobs claim that women are just naturally not as talented in technical subjects. A teacher's expectations affect the way students learn.

I'm not in disagreement, I just don't think the scenario of picking an underqualified woman over a man is very likely. I could see it with minorities, because they are (depending on where you live) few and far between. But women are not a minority. That's all I was trying to say (apparently not very well)

I'm in an engineering program where 95% of the students are male, of the 5% of the class that is female, they are just as good as the males.

Alot of the Job statistics are based on interest in a certain position not by bias. Being me (not just because I'm a woman) I wouldn't seek out a job as a janitor because it doesn't interest me. Likewise I doubt most men are interested in being a school nurse.

Women also have advantages in certain areas. I think a women would find it much easier to get a job in most retail outlets than men for example. But I think the glass ceiling does still exist, most of the people in high corporate positions are men. I think this is all going the change very soon, i think by the time i die things will be a lot more equal.

I think in the western world women have it easier than they have ever had it. But in most industries they are still not taken as seriously as men. I believe this has more to do with male insecurity than anything else. Some men just will not take orders from a woman, and that's the sticking point.

I still see senseless sexism every day. Many regular everyday guys still drop the word 'bitch' to refer to a woman, regardless of who she is. There is still a residue of disrespect towards women. I think it is human nature to casually cut people down in this way to make ourselves feel more formidable. Women have historically been an easy target for men to do this, and it's still a habit for many.

The argument about whether God is a he or a she is asinine.

Its hard to respect a woman as your equal or as your boss when at the same time on a daily basis you are reminded that it is your responsibility to do everything for them. I believe woman are absolutely capable of everything that a man is, but you cant have it both ways.

You cant play the "but I'm a girl" act all the time and then expect the same respect that I would give to someone who takes care of themselves. At least 95 percent of my coworkers are women and I still hear the same b/s on a daily basis. "aren't you going to hold the door open for me", "can your carry this folder for me", "help I don't understand even though I have worked here for 15 years".

No man gets my respect simply for being a man, and no women is going to either.

If this is true, find a new place to work. The person who does the hiring is an idiot. Most women are not like that.

I don't want to make 35/hr working construction, but I do because all the "easy" jobs are taken by women. Try looking at it the other way around, men do the jobs they do because they are expected to. Hell, it's a burden, not a priveledge.

Also, as far as gender bias within education is concerned, I think actually teacher bias is very rare (maybe you live in some super-conservative are, I don't know), and that most of that bias stems from the students' parents themselves, or just as substantially, from their genes.
