Ganoderma Lucidum advice needed (please :))
    #8227267 -

This is my first Ganoderma culture. I got 2 oak logs I just inoculated with 100 spawn dowels each of Ganoderma Lucidum. For the spawn run the place where I bought the dowels recommended that I should wrap the logs in jute bags and keep them wet. Now I couldn't find jute bags so I was wondering what I could use instead. Couldn't I just wrap them in wet cloth? Should it be a certain material or texture?
Or I could make a plastic foil skirt over them or even encase them in foil completely, but wouldn't that hinder gas exchange?

Just use a burlap sack..... jute = burlap. Its probably easier to find a "burlap sack" than it is to find a jute bag, even though they are the same thing.

From wikipedia:
Jute fibre is often called hessian; jute fabrics are also called hessian cloth and jute sacks are called gunny bags in some European countries. The fabric made from jute is popularly known as burlap in North America.

I know this isnt a direct answer to your question but sometimes calling something by a different name helps alot. I looked for agar for months and finally a korean friend told me how what they called it in korean. I asked for it using that name at one of the stores I had already tried and surprise , surprise they did infact have agar. They just didn't call it that.

Anyways, I think a potato sack would do just find , plus you'll have potatoes to eat!!

Thanks. I'll try finding something similar. Even if I don't find jute there must be other materials with a similar texture.

And another question, regarding the fruiting phase:
I'm going to keep the logs in my balcony as I don't have a garden. It has reasonable ventilation. From what I've read there are several methods of keeping the logs:

1. I've seen instructions for industrial production where the logs were fully buried in soil and topped with a few cm of soil too. Stamets in GGMM mentions burying the logs in pots with sawdust and topping them with soil.

2. Partially burying the log (I've seen instructions from 15cm deep to two thirds of the log's height) and watering the soil / sand. In this case ensuring humidity would be the issue. I was thinking of making a plastic foil cover. Would this work, and if so how frequently would I need to water/spray the logs and how frequently would I need to ventilate it?

3. As above, but using a textile cover instead of plastic foil. This would allow better ventilation but it would dry out faster.

Which method do you think would be most suitable?
