I think depending on where you came from... or your cultural upbringing would decide this.

But honestly, I haven't thought of charities helping the weak as much as I think about research against natural occurrences like anti-aging, cancer research, new vaccines fighting flu viruses, and I guess modern medicine in general "sustaining" people that wouldn't be able to function otherwise...

From a perspective of balance, natural selection should go without the help of chronic treatment. And even though chromosomal recombination through sexual reproduction adds to genetic diversity, I think that the curve for this balance of the fittest takes longer.

From an ethical perspective, help as many people as possible until you can't fathom the energy to help anymore. A personal perspective... I'm no different from anyone else around me and I'm made of the same shit everyone else is. Denying help to someone, who essentially is me, would be the most ignorant and selfishly wrong thing to do.

Then again, if we were short on resources, survival of the fittest.
