another good game so far Rich Harden has thrown 3 innings of no-hit baseball. Oakland leads 1-0.

Brown just hit a 3 run HR in the bottom of the 3rd. Oakland up 4-0

Harden has pitched a beautiful game, 6 IP 1 ER 7K. I think the A's will let him go 1 more then shut him down for the night.

How do you feel about the Cubbies naming Kerry Wood as their closer? As long as he stays healthy he could really help us and if Lieber gets that 5 spot in the rotation having Marshall and Dempster in the bullpen will be a real luxury.

Barton just got robbed. 4 straight balls with 2 called strikes.

I love Kerry as the closer! I admit being nervous about it last year, but he has been absolutely fucking lights out this spring. I'm sure he'll blow one or two, but I don't expect regular and spectacular Dempster-style meltdowns. And we know he's mentally tough, whatever you think that's worth.

Lieber will not be in the rotation. Lou announced it the other day...

With Lieber going to the pen. But I don't think Dempster lasts more than 5-6 appearances as a starter. He really isn't very good. We'll see. When he gets sent back to the pen Lieber is next in line for a starting spot. Especially w/ his spring.

I'm pretty pumped about getting this year started. I think we're significantly better than last year and I think the Brewers got worse, although not by much. The back end of our rotation is a little dodgy and alot depends on Hill pitching effectively, something he has not done very much if at all this spring. But our staff was one of the best in the NL last year and most of the same players are returning. I think we'll have very good pitching both in the pen and from the starters.

And while our line-up can't compete head-to-head with Milwaukee we're better on the mound and playing defense. We beat them last year and our team played the worst baseball I've ever seen for two months while the Brewers were playing out of their minds. We don't have to play anywhere near perfect to beat them, only play good baseball in a consistent fashion.

Anyway, like I said, I'm super excited.

Go Cubs.

Oh, and you should check out this site. It's by far the best Cubs fan site out there and there are great game recaps and other pieces of information. And the Cubs announcers and staff drop in sometimes. More than a couple of well-known Chicago sportswriters can be found there too.

Thats rubbish that Lou has Dempster pitching 3rd I was pretty confident that Lieber would get a shot in the starting rotation. But like you said, I dont see it being very long before Dempster is back to pitching out of the bullpen.

I bookmarked that link, is there a forum there? I didnt see anything but I only looked it over for a couple of minutes.

There are comments sections under each news item and a list of "diaries" in a column on the left hand side. There is always vibrant discussions about recaps and other main-page news items.

And anyone can post diaries or comments in diaries after they register. There are always quite a few new diaries every day, and its usually the first place to hear Cubs news.

It's not really like the BB here, which I think is probably the best evar, but its a pretty cool community as well.
