I like watching so I can see exactly the pitch selection pitchers use, but otherwise the radio is great.

During the postseason, when people like Joe Buck (who the fuck keeps giving that man paychecks?) are announcing, I mute the TV and listen on the radio, but watch on the TV. This goes for any sport being broadcast on national TV, including the Eagles games during the reg season.

God the season is such a long journey, the Phillies, the goddamn Phillies will outlast everyone, they now there time is now "again" to win but it won't last. Fuck them, they are like the Yankees now in the
N.L but it's so long to go, bad arms arms to there starting five, happened to Blanton, but, never wish an injury on anyone but just bad seasons that will probably not happen.
Sad, feeling sad about it.

I just don't see the Phillies being that great in a couple of years. Their offense doesn't impress me very much this year. The Braves will have the division after next year at the latest.

Unfortunately QFT...But do not be surprised if we trade away one of the big 4, get some young prospects. Obviously the choice would be Oswalt after this season, seeing how Halladay+Lee will still be dominate and under contract, and Hamels is still young and full of potential.
We have D. Brown and Johnathon Singleton though, both who will be huge parts of the Phillies success in the near future taking up the outfield along with either Mayberry Jr or Fransisco. Ibanez is done after this year, and I think Victorino will be traded or let go very soon.
I think the Phillies will still be a huge threat in the NL for the next 5-6 years, maybe one of those years missing the postseason by +5 games. The Marlins and Braves both have great young teams, but the Phillies will still hang in there. As for the Nats..Harper and Strasburg won't be enough to carry your team, although in 4-5 years they could be a terrifyingly good. As for the mets, well I think this just about sums it up:

Long term pitching deals rarely work out as expected. Halladay and Lee are great now but they have a lot of innings on their arms and they're nearing the age when most pitchers experience a decline in performance. It wouldn't be crazy to see them both miss a lot of time the next few years. Their offense is aging rapidly. The Howard contract is terrible. Lots of risk the way the Phillies are structured. Beyond next year they are very questionable.

Even so, when Blanton is your fifth starter, and with still a lineup and pitching staff like the Yankees used to have during there run, what other team can match up then besides the Red Sox? And I would still take the Phills over them.
It's never seemed so easy to make a pick then this year with the Phills IMO.

I'm not arguing the dominance of their pitching staff. It's their offense that I don't think is particular great this year. I could see Howard, Polanco, and Utley collapsing within a few years. That would leave them with one good bat in Victorino. The Phillies are built to win this year, not in the future.

Yes, but like the Yanks, they have a short time frame in two years, preaching to the choir, why I think Lee signed with them. Get the ring and when money means nothing it's still a pride and that your career was meaningful IMO.
Like Dan Marino in the NFL, what the fuck do his stats mean? I think he would give it all up for one ring. Which is why Brady is fucking awesome, but even if with Warner with one ring I respect him much more than Marino because he won a Super Bowl.
Stats mean a lot in baseball, in the NFL who gives a shit? Dilfer has a ring and I have to watch his stupid commentery on ESPN when the championship had nothing to do with him.

Marino was probably the greatest QB ever. He is certainly in the discussion. Jim McMahon was on the wining side. He was at best mediocre. There are a lot of excellent QBs who never won the SB and a lot of shitty ones who did. It is an idiot's criterion.

Agreed for every sport..i end up having this argument a lot when people say "but he has a ring, so he is better"...So in theory, Joe Blantard(1) is better than Halladay? Terry Bradshaw(4) better than Montana? Is Mark Madsen(2, with a below 1 ppg and rpg) better than Allen Iverson? It a moot point when arguing who is a better player. these games are team games, and you can't blame someone for being on a shitty team, having an injury plagued team, or playing an overall team that was better.

It's true except when the player performs more poorly under pressure.

Yes, it's stupid to expect great athletes to win.

Marino was a better QB than McMahon. In fact he was a better QB than most Super Bowl winning QBs. So was Jim Kelly and Fran Tarkenton and a whole lot of other guys who never won a Super Bowl. How many players are there on a professional football team? If a special teams scrubeenie came from being a bench warmer on a Super Bowl winner is he a better player than the star going to the Hall of Fame even though he was never on a Super Bowl winning team? The oozing dumb never ends with you.
