I enjoyed LotRO until time become a concern. But it may not be a drastic enough shift from WoW for you.

Maybe just take a break and play some shooters or something? I got into playing space sims for a while.

Age of Conan comes out may 20th. Hopefully it is good and I will quit WoW if it is good. www.ageofconan.com

Does it have to be graphics based?

LOTRO I heard was kind of interesting when it came out.. a change of pace from wow. But the classes are limited, pvp is limited, endgame is very limited.. basically it gets old real quick. The people I know that went to it from WoW got bored with it real quick though.

Don't put your faith in Warhammer. Every gamer I know that's in beta says it blows goat balls. Age of Conan may or may not be good when it's finally released.. god knows WoW could use the competition.

I just started playing a text-based MMORPG again, that I played about 10 years ago when it first came out in beta. I played it from about
'97-2004.... I've been playing WoW for 3 years and this game got me off WoW since I started playing it again. Basically, it's the best text-based game ever made.. all custom world and events. Extremely in-depth... it's a skill based levelling... so you have individual skills that you have to train.. there are about 50 or 60 possible skills you can train. Each different guild has a certain area of skills that they have to excel in, in order to advance. RP is enforced, though you don't have to RP.. just can't blatantly talk about OOC shit in game. Some might call it a MUD but this game is no MUD.. it's the best engine I've ever played on. No MUD even compares.. I know.. I've tried them all trying to find a replacement for this game.. it doesn't exist. Ah, there's a billion things I could describe about it.. but if it sounds like something you're interested in and you need a time killer.. this is the one - http://www.play.net/dr/

:yesnod:  Dragonrealms was my alltime favorite textbased several years ago when I played those.  Free Trial though?  When did you have to start paying to play?

When they moved off AOL to the web-based server, I think that was in 2001. They started off only charging $5 a month... then when they realized 1,500 plus people were hopelessly addicted they bumped it up to $15. Now they have "Premium" accounts you can get that are $10 extra per month and you get extra benefits and whatnot... and get this... "Platinum" accounts that are $50 a month where you can "relive the glory days of DR"... basically a separate game with extra rewards and crap.. same game just a different instance and everything is tuned like it was around beta. It's such BS. But I just have a basic subscription.

But after I quit DR sometime in 2004, I searched long and far to find a game that was similar to it and could replace it. I tried just about every MUD out there, none of them even came remotely close to matching that experience. I finally just gave in and started playing WoW. But now that my guild in WoW has beat the game as of 2 months ago, it's boring now so I started DR again.. love it

Yeah, same..

Thanks for the recommendation Shroomism, but graphics are a must at this point. Although I will check DR out for fun. Maybe it can fulfill my gaming addiction, who knows.

yeah it was, but it's a little dated now. when are they ever going to make a sequel for that with some updated graphics or something? that would be sweet.

the best idea for a mmorpg would be one based off of the world of "Shadowrun" though. i've been hoping they'd do it for ages but i'm sure they probably never will.

it's just such a perfect setting though. it's super futuristic, yet it has magic. it's gritty and realistic, yet it has orcs, elves, and monsters too. it's got the interesting combat with advanced weponary like guns and also traditional melee weapons too, but it also has cool elements such as 'deckers' which are hackers who go into computer programs, sort of like the matrix, but more or less based on william gibson's whole cyber punk world. in fact, shadowrun is pretty much based off of william gibson's world only they added the 'reappearance/resurgence' of magic, monsters, and more traditional fantasy races. it would also work well since there are good firm opposing factions built in, similar to the horde vs alliance thing. for instance people could start the game as part of the yakuza/a mega corporation or you could start on the side of free lancers or revolutionaries. it could be pretty versatile. i really wish someone would fucking do it!

well...you can always look forward to future mmorpgs...the ones that will be released soon. They will be out soon...That can widen your search.

I can't believe someone else on this site knows about Tibia :rofl2:

That game is the most obscure MMORPG, but since it was the first computer game I tried, it's been my favorite ever since. Thank God I don't play it anymore, though

I used to play WoW. Then I figured out life had much better graphics, superb AI and it is the most interactive game out there.
Seriously though, try going through life as you play your computer games. No fears, no reservations, much more fun than WoW.

Once you lose all fear, you are truly free.
