Spitzer got busted for his own banking activity. It was a total surprise that he was a whore monger, they just thought he was doing funky bank shit. Some people are just fucking stupid, like the guys who bought steroids with checks, but Spitzer adds a whole new dimension to it. So does the dumb fucking whore. Zappa, what do you mean the financial stuff is more damning? Isn't this just fraud per the statutes cuz the underlying activity is illegal?

I mean really, its said wire and mail fraud is about the easiest shit in the world to prove for a US attorney's office.

Since the underlying crime was prostitution, which shouldn't be illegal anyways, it kinda seems like small potatoes to me...

Fill me in on whatever I've missed...

I know this is hypocritical given his actions and stupid bullshit statements in the past regarding prostitution and technical violations of financial/ buisness laws, but the underlying crimes seem just as insignificant as the stuff he's criticized for going after.

It is expressly illegal to structure bank transactions to avoid reporting requirements. Banks are required to report any transactions over $10,000. Any attempt to structure smaller transactions so as to avoid the report is expressly precluded by law. As a prosecutor he used that many times. There's a whole lot of other unseemly shit he's done with money in the past. Like illegal campaign contributions from his father that he attempted to hide.

SPITZER MUST BE PROSECUTED

Here's why.
The Patriot Act requires a vigorous prosecution of ex-Governor Spitzer. If the Feds fail to prosecute him, the next time a would-be terrorist is hauled in by the law his mouthpiece will argue that Spitzer was not prosecuted for money laundering, etc. and "Are you racially profiling my client 'Mohammed X'"? So, in order to safeguard this important anti-terrorism tool, Spitzer must face a full scale prosecution.

There is a huge business in these high price escorts. Lots of wealthy men (including politicians) regularly do what this Governor did, this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Its always amazing to me how this sort of thing turns into front page news. This man must have done something to piss someone up the ladder off to get this kind of media coverage. Not paying up, not towing the line as the masons say.

18 Arrested in Lucrative Prostitution Ring Out of Staten Island


Eighteen men and women were arrested yesterday on charges that they helped run a sophisticated prostitution ring that masked its operation behind a series of corporate fronts and escort services with names like Gentlemen's Delight, Day Dreams and Personal Touch, officials said.

Records that were seized in a search at the home of one of the ring leaders indicated that the operation brought in $1.6 million in nine months, a law enforcement official said.

Prosecutors from the State Organized Crime Task Force, working with the New York Police Department and the F.B.I., charged 16 people with enterprise corruption and two others with falsifying business records and promoting prostitution and money laundering.

About eight midlevel managers ran the ring, which operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using about 15 to 20 drivers to dispatch 30 to 40 prostitutes each day, officials said. In most instances, customers paid $250 for sex, sometimes using credit cards. The transactions, officials said, were processed through merchant accounts held by escort services or limousine companies, and in one instance a company that hired musical bands for weddings.

''This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,'' the state attorney general, Eliot Spitzer, who oversees the task force, said in a statement. ''It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring, and now its owners and operators will be held accountable.''
