Re: job trouble due to criminal record [Re: Mickalopagus]

Dude, I need a fucking job. I owe, I owe, I owe, so off to work I NEED to go.

In fact, it is pretty much three big things that I owe. Probably $2,600 worth total. ASAP

Gotta start building that credit.

Alright a couple of things to help maybe. First a couple of questions.
What kind of work are you looking for or qualified to do?
Do you live in a city or rural area?

I think you are doing the right thing buy putting it on your apps. I think you should go one step further and at the end of your interview if you have a good repor with the interviewing manager let him/her know the story right then. It will probably help. It will let them know that you are not trying to hide anything, that you know what you did was wrong and that you learned your lesson. You need to give them your side without just seeing the negative on paper. Also make sure and follow up the day after the interview. If it is company that is email integrated drop an e-mail thanking the interviewer for his time. These things help a lot. You might think it is because of your record but if other people are more persistant than you are they will get the job.

Word.

I live in a crowded-ass suburb of Chicago. There's plenty of jobs. They always say they're 'fully staffed' and I don't even get the interview.
And it happens when I'm following up.

I think you are doing the wrong thing by putting that stuff on your applications.

It isn't any of their business and jobs do background checks at the time of hire, not sometime down the road.

Anything and everything.

They do check later on if the company calls for or they switch ownership. And that shit happens all the time.

Try factories or construction. Shitty manual labor normally pays ok but dont background check.

...So I go to court, and get a bunch of community service and a conviction on my adult record for something I fucking did when I was a minor. ... Misdemeanor Retail Theft looks bad on anyone's fucking resume. ,,,

So besides the fact, I think I could be getting any job that I apply for but they always don't hire me. I think it's because I'm an honest person and always say that I have this conviction. The reason I do this is because I don't want to get fired later because they find out.

Well now this shit is getting fucking rediculous. I NEED a job and I think the main reason why I don't is because of this curse of mine. Discriminating fucks!!

So should I stop putting it on the applications and take my chances, or stay honest and hope for the best?

If you keep doing the same thing, you will get the same results.
a) apply for more jobs and leave the crime off of you application. see what happens. you may get the job.
b) Get your record expunged or sealed. One conviction is eligible for expungement or sealing. Call you local courthouse and ask about it. In some places, you just have to fill out a form to start the process. if you qualify (only one conviction of a minor offense) then many places will seal your record without a problem. You can always background search your records yourself to see what is on them.
