Humans are mind bending enough for me not to spend time concerning myself with aliens. Maybe aliens contact us when we are ready to see them. Maybe there have never been aliens here or contacting us. Maybe they own us, or maybe they are used as security blankets. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

Aliens contacted me through the radio once... this was after doing lots of shrooms so I might have been temporarily insane. It sure seemed real. I've also seen a UFO but it could have been ball lightning or something else I don't understand.

To answer the original question of the thread, I believe that there is infinite life and intelligence apart from the Earth but I won't make any conclusions about aliens being here on Earth unless I see the big headed green or grey guys for myself.

Listen, I'm as ready as anyone to participate in the interplanetary dialog. If you can produce some alien technology for me, ill be happy to make use of it. If you can get an alien to come by my place for a chat... awesome. If you can show me incontrovertible evidence of alien life on earth, amazing.

Until at least one of those criteria is met, it is simply a dead end. There is just no possible grounds for learning or progress... I mean, i enjoy watching a hazy orb fly across a screen as much as the next guy, but there is just no comparison between that and getting out into the majesty of nature.

its not that it has to be a contest between earth and the aliens... its just that the earth is here, now, yielding up its secrets to those who seek them... and the aliens are not.

So let me put it to you like this: assuming I believe in aliens visiting earth, just like you.

What, really, am I supposed to do about it? what CAN I do about it?

What are YOU doing about it?

Good point moonshoe, theres amazing forms of life all around us. I think we underestimate its intelligence and ability as well. We're able to feel superior because we live in nice safe houses and dont have to deal with it everyday. We basically fled from nature the first chance we got, because we couldn't handle it. Where as the "less intelligent" forms of life can survive perfectly well in much more harsh environments than humans can.

just wondering how you feel about the idea that people can communicate with "aliens" through meditation.

i'm not sure too many people would argue that if you try hard enough, at some point you will perceive beings other than yourself in your head.

do you consider it likely that they are absolutely self-created in imagination?

... i think its easy to say that its delusion until its happening to you. i'm not saying that its not all psychological, i'm just saying as a person who has percieved entities communicating with me, its very hard to figure out whats actually going on.
i can easily see how when people who have had similar experiences get together, it would be easy for them to assume these entities were external (since they appear to be shared) for the sake of being part of a community, or to communicate their personal experiences with their peers.

relatedly, what spun me out the most was considering that the entities are psychological in nature, and people spread particular entities through normal communication methods. creating and then sharing an imaginary entity that other people then perceive, is alot like having an actual external entity using people as hosts to communicate.

i have experiences like these truekimbo, i don't like to talk about it that much, because i don't understand it, and it seems crazy. Whether it comes from within or from outside the mind, its amazingly complex and interesting.

Really cool thought. Certainly I have had some very potent experiences of being talked to or communicated with by an entity that did not seem to be my self, particularly on mushrooms or in dreams. I imagine that in both cases the new state of consciousness allows you to project or magnify or contact parts of your self in a way that makes them seem more cohesive and independent... or perhaps they put you in touch with real beings.

More testing is needed.

(all i know is that the giant lampshade worm who claimed to be God had some very interesting things to say about morality and the dangers of crack cocaine. "It could be stepped on by children, and go into their feet".... profound. )

I've thought about this too, on five hits of acid. It left me almost entirely convinced that these entities are alive and conscious; and if they are not (which I acknowledge is more than likely), I've found using this idea helps me a lot in making more sense of the cultural and ideological landscapes we live in. When you speak to someone, you're not only talking to another human being, you're also speaking to everything they are; and everything they are is also speaking back to you, and to everything you are. Limitless transcendent dialogues are taking place every instant of your life, both from without and from within. Consistencies and parallels arise in fascinating places among totally different people and situations.

lol, i wasn't talking about acid beings in general, but i have had a schizophrenic friend i tripped with a bit, this friend believed he was receiving transmissions from people and giving transmissions to people. when i would trip without him, he would often appear very vividly in my head and say things like "see its all real, you know i'm really here and i'm really talking to you" and i would have very insistently explain that i was not crazy like him, and that this was not real and there was no way i was really talking to him.

in above post i was thinking particularly about "archetypal subconscious" beings that have probably lived in the human psyche for tens of thousands of years. as people accept their truths, evolve their philosophies, communicate their messages and create ever expanding forms of art to describe them, they grow more and more "real".

the obvious example is jesus. lots and lots of people say they communicate and occasionally perceive jesus.
if you have tens of millions of minds generating descriptions of him, and performing real world actions based on what this shared internal entity says, at what point does the complexity become great enough that this mental jesus becomes self aware and gain the ability to direct those minds as opposed to being directed by them... at what point does the consensual model of jesus become stronger than a persons ability to control an individual internal model of him...

I was talking about this too. I've had a trip that made it all seem so real, like common-sense, these archetypes are alive and timeless, and we have developed with the ability to give them life in a completely separate space, or at least a richer, more vivid life than animals and other natural phenomena. They weren't "acid entities"; I didn't meet the entities as much as I came to the realization that they might exist, through reflection. They definitely exist as part of the universe's makeup (if not in actuality, then as things we can imagine), or we would be incapable of imagining them. Again, it's speculation that they might actually be alive, conscious, and self-aware, expressing themselves through us, but either way it's a really interesting way to observe the grand scheme of things. I see other people describing the exact same idea but always in completely different ways than I would. I haven't quite got the ability to properly articulate it yet.

Edit: Just realized how gosh-darn off-topic I've been. I don't believe in aliens per se; I would be a bit surprised if I found out they actually are watching over us, but not totally shocked. That said, I expect they probably are not, and that we're the only ones that think we're such a big deal.

I am absolutely positive that life exists outside of Earth.

I am 98% sure that such life has never visited us here.

Veritas, you say the government can't hide anything but everyone knows thats not true. Today we hear of projects that happened 30-40 years ago that people only just find out about through the freedom of information act. Theres many examples of such successful secrets.

Then theres the military bases that develop aircraft. Some of these craft were successfully hidden from public eye for tens of years before they were officially released. The military and intelligence services know how to keep secrets and history proves this.

At the other end of the spectrum you have the head of the UK MOD's UFO department (Nick Pope) telling the public that a landed UFO craft was not just seen but touched by high ranking military personnel at Rendlesham forest.

If the head of the ministry of defenses UFO department doesn't know then who the hell does? Personally I believe these highly credible authorities in the subject over your misguided beliefs.

There is a HUGE difference between concealing their own projects & concealing the presence of aliens.  I think you give the government far too much credit.

To what OC constantly says about the military flares in Pheonix.

Your conclude that thats all it was and will ever be, based on an appeal to authority. You were not there. Why keep talking about the military flares as if they were your own? How about the most recent Arizona sighting? How much did the government dodge that one? They made a fool of themselves by denying it was any sort of advanced technology. Could be aliens, could be the military. Speculate all you want, they were certainly not flares or F-16s.

The possiblity for ET life is 100%. Almost everybody agrees on this. I think the possiblity for an intelligent ET presence is so high, I have come to conclusion that the universe is quite intelligent and that our human arrogance reflects our level of evolution. Once we start poking outside of the bubble... what do you get? Astronauts and other highly-intelligent credible folk saying "There are fuckin ETs." The burden is on the need for proof. Who controls this department? It's seems like basic logic to me that it is a liability issue. It's not hard to conceive that the control-freak is just as real as the greedy monster that is Gamblor.

Quote:

How could you possibly know this? Just because you declare it is fact does not make it so. What credentials do you to make a statement that has any more substance above any of the claims by the highly credible disclosure project members describing the process of "reverse-engineering" that took place?

Unless you have a Sc., PhD., M.D... and unless you have been alive for the last 200 years to over-see every human event please... Strong skills in philosophical debate do not hold domain over the endless possibilities of this universe.

My point in the end:

It is 100% possible.

58% of the 40 members that voted in the poll believe that there is indeed an ET presence.

We are all delusional I know. But whos to say that the entire world belief system that I actualy have to do what the government tells me is not a delusion. Our entire experience so far IS a delusion and the only thing that brings us closer to our true essence is nature, apart from the delusions, is that of which has been completely cut off from us.

Quote:
In 2004 [Edgar Mitchell] told the St. Petersburg Times that a "cabal of insiders" inside the US Government were studying recovered alien bodies, and that this group had stopped briefing US Presidents after John F. Kennedy. He has said, that "We all know that UFOs are real, now the question is, where they come from."

Are they from other planets, other dimensions, another time, or just another schitzophrenic split personality episode? When you give ode to the universe, we must assume that they are most likely all of these.

Edgar Mitchell, I salute you! (yes, appeal to authority, I know)
