Greetings pheerthevoid:) I think the pine forests in your area are definately a good place for a hunt, I'm not sure how much luck you will have finding Psilocybe subaeruginosa but I suspect you may find Psilocybe aucklandii! Good luck with the Weraroa novaezelandiae, check the landscaped gardens for Ps.subaeruginosa. I'd love to see some images of some Psilocybe semilanceata, good luck. Welcome to the shroomery inski..

Thanks inski
I found a large wood chip pile and found some Parasols, I can't remember the scientific name but they are large, white with black spots on top. Edible too
It has been raining and it's quite warm so I might go for a hunt

Hey, found these near wanaka growing on cow dung. Looks like 2 types to me. Can anyone identify? No blue staining yet on either and its been awhile. They smell like the shrooms I used to get in the states.

Some sort of Agrocybe of Inocybe i would say. Non-edible, i litterally have MILLIONS of those in my back yard. I have over 10 square kilometers of laid wood chips here (no typo and no bullshit) so it looks like a potentially very promising season for me.
Haha i will get some pics up soon if y'all dont believe me
I cant wait for my first trip of the season!
Whens the earliest you guys have gotten P. subs?

have heard of them popping up as early as february before
a friend of mine works in a garden centre and she says subs are coming up now in some of the potted clematis (woodchips in the soil I guess...?)
so yeah, they obviously aren't as fussy about warmer temperatures as conventional wisdom would have us believe...hopefully this season will be better than last (I'm in the Manawatu and last year was arse compared to '06) but there's been piss-all rain lately
and best of luck with the weraroa, guys...I haven't had them in like five years or so now

Hi I'm a long time watcher but pretty new poster, really looking forward to the upcoming season and maybe finding some weraroa too (subs don't seem very common in wellington, correct me if I'm wrong). I haven't heard of subs coming up before April even with lots of rain.

haha oh i cant wait for this years mushroom season! I live near a creek/stream and the local council has covered the whole place(its kind of like, a little reserve) with wood chips! Its literally a jump over my fence and there woodchips everywhere. Ive already seen mushrooms growing in it, which is a good sign considering how early in the year it is. I say a month or 2 and imma be seeing some nice shroomz worthy of eating

Well for New Zealand, the opposite of where your shroom season starts. A few mushrooms are popping up already, Amanita Muscaria, Ghostly Webcaps.. etc.
In a month or so we will be seeing our favourite Psilocybe and hopefully Weraroa.

I'm new to dunedin but I here pickings are pretty good here. People have been saying that the amanitas are around, and so you reckon the psilocybes are a month off?
