Really? No kidding, I don't doubt that because someone else had actually reported them growing in his backyard. He lived around the Ethelton area and said he had horses in his backyard so there was a lot of dung in the ground. Also I've been to a horse feild a fair few times and I suspect the corpses I've found there were Pan Subbs, never found em fresh though.

Anyway here are some SA "goldtops" from todays hunt:

there was about thrice as many around but they were immatures and bug infesteds. only my best locations are producing anything at all for me right now. most places are still too dry...

Am pretty new to this and I require a little help and guidance. I am looking for some relief for my cluster headaches. Can someone help me identify these mushrooms? They are fairly small...approx 4-5cm long. Photos are not the best but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers and thanks

its a large carpark in the hills which is heavily landscaped with woodchips. plenty of shrubs, trees and plants are in the woodchip beds. I didn't take any shots in the natural habitat because I forgot my camera. but i have heaps of photos from previous years in old SA threads (or my gallery) - they are all the photos with woodchips. all my other locations are more natural habitats like this one ...

went hunting again today in adelaide hills, and found an aweomse pine forest with pine needles littering the ground for miles.

Found many huge amantias (didnt take any) but nothing else apart from a couple of dead/shrivelled up old small mushies and a few strophs. I have seen so many strophs around and i hate them soo mucyh because i get so excited everytime i see them because they kinda look like subs. Does anyone know if inactives appear before active mushies?

lots of rain this weekend hopefully so it should be a good one!

cya all

how long does it take for myc bodies to start fruiting after heavy rain? also will the temp drop enough this weekend to kick off the season?

went for a hike yesterday in some pine forest. first time i've hunted one of them. i've only ever picked from natural habitat or garden beds. lots of mycology. lots of amanitas kicked and trampled. i'm not sure of any of these, except the amanita:

is this panaeolus subbaltaetus?

and from a native area a few days earlier:

thanks for the compliment guys! sollie - those aren't Panaeolus subbalteatus because they aren't in dung or grass. that gymnopilus habitat looks like it might have a few subs around though. btw if you're after identification I recommend creating a seperate thread you'll get more replies. generally these season threads are mostly for active finds

thanks tryptonite. will keep it to actives from now. i searched through a few pine forests for 4 hours and saw no subs. either none fruiting yet or someone got in before me and stripped the place bare.

wasn't looking for any specific IDs, just thought i'd throw them up for interest.

any ideas on my rain/temp question?

Yep, judging by the rain forecast, there has been plenty of cold enough nights this week, very dewey mornings all over, so next week should be a good week for a successful hunt with a bit more rain and cold temps.

2SWZZL, if you have spare time up your sleeve, grab a street directory and look up any place that might have natural habitat like conservation parks etc in the hills, maybe public places that might have mulched gardens, and all of the pine forests around the adelaide/fleureau region, and start driving and hiking.

most people i know keep their locations pretty hows ya father... considering all the time and effort and $$ spent on finding them.

apparantly the crawford pine forests do produce, but you probably have to wait till next week after the rains this weekend. hopefully there'll be some action up there and all other hallowed locations next week.
