casing with used cakes....
    #800158 -

My cakes are going thru their second flush but i was pondering this question as i looked at them.....
after i harvest them after 2 flushes, is it possible to dunk them, then crumble them and use them as substrates
for a casing??? Or even if it was after a first flush.....would this by any chance achieve success?

Im prolly going to try this anywayz , just to see...but has any1 attempted this?
The only thing i have to lose is just time. I doubt i'll get much on a 3rd flush anywayz.

As long as the cakes are not contaminated, I would give it a shot.

when i have used old cakes the colonization times are tripled, sometimes not even colonizing at all. It seems to me that used cakes' mycelium is worn out and not as strong as freshies.

I have noticed pinning within 12-14 days of casing using "used" cakes.

From what my friend has done with slightly used cakes, I think you could absolutely do that. I have a similar question about it that I just posted about crumbling used cakes on top of perlite and letting it form a 'mat'.

Peace,

"From what my friend has done with slightly used cakes"

>>what did he do with them??? And what were his results??

Mickey>>> notice pinning within 10-14 dayz??? that is LOOONG my firend. wowwww!

Yes the mycellium should be worn out from the used cakes but thats where the dunking comes in...wouldnt that help to refresh it and give it a good run for the casing???

Im using 1/4 pint cakes by the way...but once the second flush finishes on all the 3 cakes, i'll put it together and notify u of any or no results that occured.

Huh? Do you actually case cakes? Fruiting within 10-14 days after casing, using post-flush (old) cakes, is not a long time.

Mine take a lil long then a week for fresh cakes, if not longer with perfect conditions. But i think it will take. Might take a lil longer and produce results you are "used" too. But i dont see why it wouldnt work. You are introducing more nutrients to the mychelium(spelling). Just like starving people eatting up everything at sizzler? Maybe sure as fuck dont see why not

My first and only casing was made up of 3 cakes that were in the HydraPod and weren't producing many shrooms after 2 flushes. I soaked them for 12 hours in peroxidated water and then crumbled them into a pan and cased with straight vermiculite. I harvested 3 flushes from the casing. I could have probably gotten one more flush but I had to throw it out since I'm about to move and don't want to have to relocate a casing in the midst of a grow.

Peace,

Bop

u didnt get that much from ur cakes in the hydrapod??? I thought the hydrapod provides the most perfect
conditions and should give u the best and highest yield..in other words it maximizes ur cakes!??

Peroxidated water?? Ughhhh, errrrrrr...u mean distilled water that has hydrogen peroxide? If so whats the ratio
of water to HP? Actually i dunked one cake and put it in the terr. the same day i dunked another cake. next day
i put that cake in the terr and dunked another cake. next day i crumbled all 3. Dont ask me why i didnt
dunk all at once...LOL

Using fresh cakes in a casing, how long does it relatively take b4 u see any hypnal knots form??? I've been waiting about 8 dayz now.

Thx
