First Time Cultivator, and i need some help

Im about to begin my first crop, but i have a few questions. Im using the whole grain rye and mason jar tek, but i was wondering if i should fruit in the jars themselves, or fruit in a separate container. Also, i have a good background in biology and ecology, so contaminants shouldn't be TOO big of a factor, but what are some rookie mistakes i should be really aware of?

First rookie mistake! Thinking that contamination won't be "TOO big" of a factor. Contamination doesn't come in "LEVELS". Unless you're working with petri dishs and agar, contamination of any type, size, quantity, etc. means COMPLETE FAILURE. I say that because I made that same damn mistake. I have plenty of Biology and chemistry at the University level and it took about two failed attempts and about 2-3 months out of my busy life to realize that I had to rethink my procedures.

Welcome to the Shroomery! (sorry) I should have said that first.

Other than that, I would start by using the search function on the site and type in WBS tek. Start doing lots and lots of reading. Find a tek that seems to be within your grasp, (supplies, etc.) and then start asking questions. There is plenty of knowledge to be had here. Good Luck!

my advice would be to start doing research and learning as much as you can about this hobby. everything you need to know is posted on this forum

You can fruit in the jars but not too many people do. Just do some more research and you will find what is right for you:thumbup:

I dont know whats more annoying ppl asking dumb questions that have been anwsered a million times or the people giving the advice to use the search function.

i had some jars that colonized on wbs in june of 07. they where half full of piss and and been in the fridge since then. i took them out and put them on the counter a few weeks ago. friday night i unscrewed the led and topped my salad with five very small squished shrooms. they where awesome. i can be done but i wouldn't waste them.
