Bruise question/problem
    #786997 - 07/30/02 08:27 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

The first flush on my cakes is complete. So, I picked all mushrooms and aborts off the cakes, put them in half-pint jars filled with water, and put them in the fridge. Last time I ckecked on them, the bottoms of the cakes were developing a bluish bruise color. This has never happened to me before. Ideas on causes, or simple suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Alatore

I'm sure this occured while you were handling them.

The thing is, the bruising is not in just patches, but the entire cake is turning blue. I sure as hell didn't handle them THAT much. The only times I touched my cakes were when I was cleaning out the grow space, and when I picked the harvest.
Sure is wierd though. Anybody ever heard of this? Can a bruised cake still be used to fruit?

Thanks,
Alatore

That is rather odd that they turned blue after dunking...
might want to check out the contam 'cause there was some guy talking about the cake turning blue.
But it might only be bruising

Yeah, could be, but it doen't look like a contam at all. It looks like a deep blue bruise. Guess only time will tell.

Thanks,
Alatore

I wouldn't worry too much about the bruising. Once it is out of the water the mycelium should recover. This has happened to me before several times. Anytime you touch the cake a blue fingerprint will appear, even if you barely touched it.

no worries
