If you got the flu so bad, how about staying at home?
    #7831039 - 01/04/08 08:11 AM (16 years, 28 days ago)

The girlfriend of a very dear friend of mine went to a "healing session" and returned from it with a terrible flu  because some selfish person had taken his atrocious flu to this gathering of people in the hopes of getting cured.

A couple days later she visited me however, occasionally complaining how she had it "so bad" and how miserable the flu made her.

I love her but damn girl, go zip yourself up in a plastic dome or something if you're that sick :crankey:

And a couple days later, presto. My cavities are filled with snot, I have a lump in my throat that makes me gag, my lungs secrete phlegm to make me cough, my body temp is elevated with the typical flu feeling and I'm miserable.

When I get the flu I try to make sure that it ends with me, and part of that is that I won't take it to friends and prevent friends from visiting unless situation demands it and I have their informed consent. Sounds dramatic but its a highly infectious disease that can feel quite bad, and you're only highly infectious for a couple of days anyway. I don't want to give them my flu because I love them.

Others however are less considerate where it comes to preventing the spreading of flu.

Which to me means only one thing: polltime :smile2:

.
What's your opinion on people who spread the flu like it's love?

I don't go around spitting on people or anything but I do usually go to work like normal and I may cut back on friends a little but not much.

But I also don't get sick much, only 1-2 times a year:shrug:

Whenever I get the flu I usually stay home for the first two days and then I'll get enough of sitting at home and I'll end up meeting friends. I don't know anyone that has gotten the flu from me though.

But if you call them first to meet them (if that's the custom among your friends) do you mention your flu so they can decline?

One think for all you flu-stricken people out there: VITAMIN C. Seriously, buy a pound of the pure chemical at a vitamin company. It will not just help with extractions you want to make etc..

If you take a teaspoon full of pure vitamin C in half a glass of water (3 grams, or 3x 1gram instant release vitamin C tabs) and this three or four times a day, it will markedly reduce al your symptoms, better in fact than any OTC flu remedy out there. Start early and continue this for a week or so.

It will at the very least cut the unpleasantness of having the flu in half and gives your immune system a fighting chance.

It sounds like an old wives tale but in the 8-15 gram a day range vitamin C can have a marked effect on most colds and flu's. It may save your ass if there's a particularly bad influenza going around.

I bought me a kilo for about $30, its good stuff.

i've currently been on sick leave for the past 3 days...

on new years day i started to get a sore throat...then at 3 am on the 2nd of jan, i noticed that i had gunk on the side of my eyes...that's when i thought..oh fuck conjunctivitis. i decided to check my throat too...and there you go, white spots on my tonsils. I made a doc apt in the morning to learn the obvious - conjunctivitis and tonsillitis. i'm on a course of anti biotics + anti biotic drops.

i've been at home this whole time, not even in physical contact with the husband person cause i don't want him catching this dreadful eye muck crap. seriously, i feel so miserable and keep thinking what a shitty start to this new year.

anyways, my boss was really cool to call me and said to take paid sick leave, he doesn't want me stressing before i go on holiday - he was worried that if i'm in a warmer climate and still ill it'll get worse. nice guy.

but yeah, the vit C has helped in reducing some symptoms...yay for lemon and honey 5x a day

They probably would be aware of my illness, but not necessarily.

oh i forgot to mention how i got this crap...

i gave my friends a call, the ones whom i was with during new years. i wanted to warn them that they might get sick and if so, it was probably due to me..and wanted to apologize.

well turns out one of my friends was the one who infected me...his kids got this shit at day care and he didnt' even bother telling me or my husband when he brought them over to our place and when he came over a few times before the new years celebration. "slipped his mind"

FUCK FUCKFKJKJ!!!

Up your vitamin C.. it can help dramatically once you get in the multigram region.

"The husband person" You might try this: When he walks in, sternly announce "He brings her hot tea and biscuits." If this amazes him, just repeat the third person narrative. You got to do something to amuse yourself when you're sick

People should really have some more respect for infectious diseases and their friends.

It's not bird flu, nor the end of the world but it sucks to get it, to have it and to spread it.

and conjunctivitis too, wow :frown:

You don't want your friends to get bad drugs and you don't want them to get a bug you carry. That's common courtesy.

There are even people who are HIV positive and go around having unprotected sex because they don't like condoms. Unthinkable, I just can't get my head around that.

My g/f gave me a horrible flu the day before yesterday. I've been limited to laying in bed or laying in front of the toilet. She stayed home from work, I've rarely left my room except to go puke/shit.

I don't know why sick people don't try to stay home and get better. Rather than spreading the nastiness around. It seems so fucking stupid to me to just ignore the fact that your carrying a horrible flu around and giving it to everyone you come into contact with.

The shitty thing is, is that we both got it from her sister & brother in law. They both had this flu, but decided to come over for new years anyway. Even tho they left after like an hour, it was still long enough to give it to us. Bastards.

What really makes me mad is when someone is sick but fails to mention it until after everyone is done smoking the joint.

Yeah I gave up on sharing joints/bowls a few weeks ago when they confirmed human-human transmission of H5N1 Bird flu. Better to be safe than dead right.

ha ha that reminds me of the first half of my junior year at college when I contracted mono.  That was the height of stonerdom for me and my general circle of friends.  I always carried around a little bowl, and when people went off to smoke, I'd explain my situation and see if they won't mind breaking me off my own mini-nug.  People were generally so grateful that I was taking precautions that they were more than happy to break me off a bit.  I always got greens

I don't know if I should have been getting high while I had mono, but that is besides the point   I was also snorting ritalin and popping vics, so there you go.  College

You mean after they've gotten their high?

With any illness I'll make mention of it on the phone, then it's usually followed by, "Alright, well I got some weed, I'll stop by after work and blaze."   They don't care, and I'm the same way.

Sometimes if it's really bad we'll torch the end of the bowl after each hit but for the most part we don't spread it around.
